2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Clinton steals another of Bernie's talking points. This time on Wall Street.
It's almost word for word this time. This is getting ridiculous folks.
"No bank is too big to fail, and no banker is too important not to jail." - Hillary. 19 seconds into the video. Compare that to the dozens of speeches where Bernie has said the exact same thing using almost the exact same words for the last few months.

(10,170 posts)I think every time we see her steal a position, we just call it an endorsement. Good for her to see the light even if it is in the dust of the trail that Bernie keeps blazing.
HerbChestnut
(3,649 posts)But in all seriousness I think she's just pandering for votes right now. She's trying to position herself, as she has this entire election, so she appears lock step with Bernie on the issues regardless of her history.
Melissa G
(10,170 posts)A better way to point out who is really leading on this issue and who is blowing in the wind?
HerbChestnut
(3,649 posts)In which case I would agree with you wholeheartedly. The term 'steal' is definitely harsh, but I thought it appropriate in this case.
Melissa G
(10,170 posts)I just think this a a good come back to her suggestion of Bernie endorsing her Wall Street plan. We point out how she Inherently Endorses His.

passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)After all, in the general, she will be fighting the teahadists, so moving further right would be to her advantage in securing right wing or independent votes then.
the problem with vote pandering is that it means you are not standing firm on your beliefs and you can swing any time it's convenient for you.
I prefer a more principled stand like Bernie's.
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)than it is to shift a little.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)Do you think Bernie will shift right if he wins?
geek tragedy
(68,868 posts)Just how it works.
passiveporcupine
(8,175 posts)He does not shift on principles easily. He's not going to pander for votes the way most if not all the republicans might.
He may shift a little, but not as easily as Hillary seems to be ready to do.

(42,862 posts)Last time I checked, the USPTO wasn't in the business of protecting political candidates' ideas or policy goals.
Considering that Hillary is the prohibitive leader in the race toward the nomination, I'd think that Bernie's followers would be THRILLED that "his" policy would be one to be pursued by Hillary's administration.
Sheesh! Some people!
HerbChestnut
(3,649 posts)It must be tough seeing your candidate adopt the positions of her opponent in order to pander for votes.
Btw, "prohibitive leader"...LOL
NurseJackie
(42,862 posts)... that even if he did manage to get them all (including O'Malley's) he still wouldn't have enough to overtake Hillary. That's what I call "prohibitive"
You call it "pandering" or "stealing ideas" ... but I'm glad that Hillary's not the kind of candidate who thinks it's necessary to oppose worthwhile policies simply because "the other" candidate is taking credit for it. (When you think about it, that's pretty much what the GOP and TB's are doing with Obama.)
I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, but it's not difficult to detect the anger and frustration that's hiding behind that determined and stoic facade.
All I can recommend is that you guys try to always look on the bright side, put on a happy face, and try to find the sunny side of life.

(45,120 posts)the only thing to do is elect Bernie. You know, Hillary really doesn't mean it. Anyone who say's one minute she will tell wall Street to "cut it out" , sorry that gets me every single time, and then turns around and borrows what Bernie says is just playing with you.

(30,058 posts)I have not heard Sanders say he was going to enhance Dodd Frank and invoke the Volcker rule which would break up the banks if they fail under Hillary's plan. The banks will not break up with the Glass Stegall nor will it prevent the financial crisis of 2008.
