Today, Mitt Romney Lost the Election
You can mark my prediction now: A secret recording from a closed-door Mitt Romney fundraiser, released today by David Corn at Mother Jones, has killed Mitt Romney's campaign for president.
On the tape, Romney explains that his electoral strategy involves writing off nearly half the country as unmoveable Obama voters. As Romney explains, 47 percent of Americans "believe that they are victims." He laments: "I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
So what's the upshot? "My job is not to worry about those people," he says. He also notes, describing President Obama's base, "These are people who pay no income tax. Forty-seven percent of Americans pay no income tax."
This is an utter disaster for Romney.

(65,357 posts)back then the MSM aggressively suppressed such information, and the voters were not hurting from a Repubclcian engineered recession.
The press seems a bit less willing to cover for Romney this time.

(1 post)This whole campaign has been a series of unbelievable blunders, mis-statements, and oops moments. I can see my kids telling my (as-yet-unborn-but-they-better-provide-me) grandchildren, "Back in 2012 . . ." and telling a legendary tale that should be set to the type of song Johnny Cash used to sing. Meanwhile, here's a version from a crabby liberal opinionated Jewish mother . . .

(4,167 posts)Unfortunately, 45% of Romney supporters are either racist, greedy, stupid, etc... that even with this video, we will never convince them to vote for Obama.
Also the "liberal" media will not even go after him on this.

(20,136 posts)or moderate "Republicans" who may see this as the last straw. (Yes there are very few, if any, moderates in the Republican leadership. But they do exist in the general population. They're the type of Republicans who voted for Obama in 2008)

(1,277 posts)This isn't going to turn off Romney supporters. It's going to turn off everyone else. It also helps Obama immeasurably with regard to enthusiasm among his base.
And the media IS covevering it and it will have legs.
Book it.

(331 posts)I wonder if he would think differently if he had to live with very little and the lawmakers are threatening to take that very little away. I am not one of those people. I teach school, pay taxes, don't depend on hand-outs but, I don't make Mitt Romney's money. I wish I did. Somehow I can't see myself taking away someone's job to make money for myself. Somehow, I see the faces and eyes of the so called 47%. There are angels on this earth and Mr. Romney is not one of them. If I were a Republican, I would be ashamed to have him as my candidate. Even the people in foreign countries do not like him. He is not a popular fellow and seems to come off as very arrogant. No matter how the Republican Party tries to fix his image he is Mr. Arrogant (spoiled) Rich Man. Not, that I have anything against the rich. There are many rich people who help others. Mr. Romney has no conscience! I hope to God he messed himself over!

(10,952 posts)in the poll numbers. If the poll numbers show a sharp divide between Obama and Romney it will be harder for Romney to try to steal the election.

(13,485 posts)It doesn't matter how many times he steps in shit to the people who are convinced that Obama is evil from hell. It doesn't matter to those who just don't want to vote for Obama because they don't want to. There is no logic that will change their minds. This means that if we don't have something tantamount to a landslide, there is a margin of error that can be manipulated.
Logic is not in play here for the Romney absolutist. Forget them.
We need a huge margin, one large enough that it would make no sense to even try to manipulate the vote. Otherwise, we are vulnerable and it's a crap shoot.

(27,985 posts)No Friday news dump for this stuff. And they will release a little more each day. While Romney lost the campaign yesterday, he will have to sit through the rest of the week watching his political prospects as even a dog catcher (especially a dog catcher!) go down the drain.

(489 posts)People might forgive a president for occasionally "misspeaking," as the folks at Fox might say when a Republican presidential nominee talks as though he has no relationship with reality. But if that foot keeps flying back into the candidate's mouth within minutes of it being dislodged, voters will eventually reach the conclusion that the candidate is an absolute dolt.

(17,656 posts)It's going to cost the Republicans the House of Representatives, too.
Those tea party candidates ran on these same social issues in 2010 -- claiming that the Democrats are just lazy moochers that never pay their way for anything, and want to have money given to poor people for not working.
They've even stated this year that President Obama is just handing out federal government paychecks to unemployed people without requiring them to look for work.
Which is a huge lie.
So, now that the tea party coalition in Congress has found their "fearless leader", who double-downed on his comments in that video by calling a 10 PM press conference -- the 2nd one he has called in less than a week -- they will all go down in defeat together.
