Unbelievable - actually quite believable.
Mitt Romney: There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what
These are people who pay no income tax.

Oh who are we kidding. That happened in Tampa. But still, it's very very bad.

(187 posts)I follow politics every day - when I listened to this my jaw dropped.
Born a multimillionaire and he despises the poor - unfu**ing believable.
I think this video is going to be played a few hundred million times.

(14,275 posts)It's the real deal. If it wasn't obvious to anyone before, it is clear now. He has absolutely no clue how people live.
We have no right to health care? Food? Housing? What a greedy, mean spirited bastard! I thought he was supposed to be a right to lifer? Does that only apply to people who are not actually alive?

52% is "middle class" making 200k-250k
1% are hard working, worthy, lovely, people, who belong to his country club.

(41,205 posts)Unfortunately, it's spreading to the UK as well. It makes poverty sound like an addiction that people can overcome by being deprived of help. And another excuse for kicking people when they're down, and punishing them for being in need. Very Dickensian. Oliver Twist asked for MORE! - how dependent and entitled of him!
And the use of 'victims' as though it's a crime to be a victim, rather than to be a victimizer: another example of RW harshness and bullying.
'who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it.'
This is a nasty attitude, especially from someone who seeks to run the government. If someone applied for a job and told their potential employers that they were at fault in believing that the employee had a responsibility to do the job, and in thinking that they were entitled to good service - well, I don't think they'd get the job! But somehow a political candidate can get away with what's essentially the same thing.

(4,551 posts)It's shocking that a candidate for President of the United States would go behind closed doors and declare to a group of wealthy donors that half the American people view themselves as victims, entitled to handouts, and are unwilling to take personal responsibility for their lives. Its hard to serve as president for all Americans when youve disdainfully written off half the nation.

(60 posts)The time shall soon come, when the hard working man can no longer feed his family, his children deprived the opportunity to higher education, the social order stagnate, and an era of American Aristocracy takes reign; however, this reign will be short-lived, as history will repeat itself once again:
Bring forward the wicked and cruel, and let the Guillotine bestow its wisdom upon them, and judge them fairly.

(41 posts)It is going to be more than that 47% of Americans who vote against you, Mr. Romney.
We don't want to see you anywhere NEAR the White House.
You are not only cynical and vacant, you are frightening.

(375 posts)who will say, "Right on!" Because Romney couldn't possibly be talking about them! No, he's was talking about...ahem, those "other people"! But of course Romney was talking about many of them, as well as the others!
But don't call Mitt divisive or anything, because he meant to keep his true feelings about these people, many of them who will still vote for him, a secret.
The trick will be to convince many of these people that if they are receiving anything like or SS, Medicare, or just don't pay Federal income taxes (of course they are paying other taxes) because they work hard earning low wages so that they can stay in their own place in the trailer park (just the truth, I'm not making fun of anyone, except possibly the self-entitled super-rich), that Romney is talking about them, and saying that the government gives them too good a deal.
