2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumLily Adams, the daughter of Cecile Richards of Planned Parenthood and Ann Richards works for Hillary
She previously held positions with the Democratic National Committee and last spring was hired to work for the Hillary campaign.
Here is some of her background:
(Sept. 2013) Press secretary to Sen. Tim Kaine (VA) after serving as press secretary on his 2012 campaign. Press secretary to Sen. Richard Blumenthal (CT). Deputy press secretary on Gov. Ted Strickland's 2010 re-election campaign. Part of the press team on Creigh Deeds' 2009 campaign for governor of Virginia. B.A. in politics from Brandeis Universlty, 2009. Daughter of Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and granddaughter of Ann Richards.
Democrats and pro-choice advocates, and supporters of Planned Parenthood see this as a good thing and not a conspiracy.
Breitbart and anti-choicers see it as a conspiracy and talk about it in that manner.

(9,522 posts)I'm a democrat and I don't see it as a good thing. I see it a payoff for an endorsement that has seriously damaged Planned Parenthood.
Don't you even DARE lump me in with Breitbart and anti-choicers.

the endorsement was this week and also public.
do you consider parades "sneaky"?
cause that's how sneaky this was, completely public.

where will people (especially low income women) get healthcare if they close?
Planned Parenthood is the largest Medicaid provider in the country --in other words, they provide healthcare for people at lower rates to more people than any other.
And you're advocating that people stop supporting them?
That's a great way to harm poor people and poor women especially because you feel a good organization's fundraising arm didn't support your preferred candidate.
I didn't realize it was all about them.

I realize you see it as a giant conspiracy that someone who regularly has worked for Democrats over the years would sign onto the campaign of the frontrunner for the nomination and a pro-choicer at that.
Ohhhhhhh, what a giant conspiracy, Planned Parenthood supported the pro-choice candidate with the greatest amount of support of any in the field right now.
What a scoop.
You guys gotta stop being victims. I'm more than happy to vote for Bernie if you can get him to win the primaries and caucuses. But he's gotta win first.

(8,879 posts)You've thrown me in with Breitbart because I don't approve of the political back-scratching meant to sew up an election that is in its relative infancy.
My post is about your shitty framing.

(40,656 posts)Hillary will win and she positioned her daughter to move up with HRC. If you don't see it, you are purposefully not looking. It isn't about this woman's qualifications. Its about her mom getting a perk for her endorsement. Kid pro quo.

Why would PP change it's history of not endorsing a primary candidate and only the nominee?
Sorry does not pass the smell test.
I will vote for HRC is she wins the primaries. But have cut off $ to PP.

The League of Conservation Voters and Sierra Club endorsed Al Gore before he got the nomination in 2000.

(45,319 posts)And your post is McCarthyist bullshit. I've defended clinics with my body this is not an issue that is suited to the dividing of the very people who have risked injury and faced down mobs for them. They do not ask only for money. They ask for our physical support and at times for defense of clinics, 'stand with us' they say.
I sent them a check with a note that if they ever asked me for anything other than money again I'd never give them anymore money. If they are a primary endorser, they will not get my body nor my words and they have no standing at all to make such requests.

(14,920 posts)I googled to see what I could find out. The first dozen or more links were to anti-choice websites and Breitbart or sources quoting Breitbart. I found that interesting to say the least, and can see why Creekdog made the connection he did. Not saying you aren't a real democrat, but you might want to examine the long-term consequences of making common cause with anti-choicers, Breitbart, and others who are trying to neutralize HRC.

You and others might want to stop accusing democrats of not being democrats. If Brietbart had been the only source, I would have ignored the whole thing. I am not an anti-choicer, either.

(14,274 posts)There seems to be a certain faction of so called progressive liberals here that jump at any opportunity to join hands with the Republicans. As long as they think it will somehow hurt Hillary. I thought some posters had jumped the shark when they started bringing up Monica and Vince Foster again. But this shit here is truly vile.
You know who's been trying to tear down Planned Parenthood for months (actually years) now? The fucking Republicans, anti-choicers and yeah, Breitbart.
So some of those DUers here saying that they will never support PP after this have just joined in with some of the nastiest people in this country.

(45,319 posts)endorsements. That goes for all of them, LGBT groups as well. It is an exploitation of the issues those groups claim to serve and I think it is ethically depraved and harmful to the unity of the community. When you are an advocate for a specific issue or community, that's what you need to do. When you put strings on the support for the group, you are using that group to serve those strings, not the stated objective of the group.
If people feel that by standing up for your group they will be seen as endorsing a candidate, many might hesitate to stand up for you. If I ask 'stand with me' it should not include 'stand also with anyone I endorse, when we march it is about the cause and the candidate'.
That's how I feel about it. And I get to use my money and my body as I see fit.

This said, I do not need Cecil Richards to tell me who to support in this primary. It is not as if Sanders was a anti-choice, anti-women person. So, at this level, women's right is not what makes me choose who I support for the nomination.
For the general election, there is not much choice either. Any GOP candidate is a big NO-NO when it comes to women's issues. Webb fares a little better, assuming he runs, but not good enough for me to consider him. So it will be the Democratic nominee.
