Lifelong Republican I know plans to vote Obama, but.....

Was talking to someone I know that's always voted Republican his whole life. But is voting for Obama in 2012. He said every other Republican candidate in the past he was able relate to in some way. But he can't find how he relates to Romney in any way. He's also upset over how they treated Ron Paul at the convention.

However, don't get too excited. He's not voting for Obama because he agrees with him. He plans to vote GOP the rest of the ticket. I got the feeling he wants deadlock. Kick the can down the road, as they say, because he doesnt like any of the choices.

A lot of Republicans don't really like Romney. I wonder if many are thinking the same thing. Punt on the Presidential election and wait til 2016 while keeping the House and taking the Senate in order to deadlock Obama.

eta: liking the gridlock, i don't get that at all. but i have a sneaking feeling that at least one of my coworkers is on the same page. i'll take gridlock over a republican president anyhow.

She has never donated to a presidential campaign but this time she gave $2,500 to the Obama campaign. I guessing that also means a vote for Obama as well. She had an opportunity to meet with him and admitted to being thoroughly impressed.

Strategically, it makes sense to put the party in a holding pattern til 2016. It's risky, but if Romney is elected, he will be blamed and rightly so when he tanks the economy. We won't see republicans around for a long time after that. But, people might be tired of how long it's going to take to fix things after neglecting the infrastructure for so long and after having politicians being bought outright instead of backdoor deals like they used to. In a lot of ways 2016 will be a blank slate for both parties. Which is why both parties are more nervous and people on both sides are talking about 2016 almost as much as 2012.

demographics ultimately would change the electorate before 2016 a number of districts could very well erode from their control..
