Related: About this forumRe: Susan Sarandon's quote.
Actress Susan Sarandon says that a womans vagina should not necessarily determine for whom to vote.
In the New York City Democrat mayoral primary, the liberal actress, 66, apparently has switched her support from Christine Quinn to the previously little known Bill de Blasio.
Quinn, the City Council Speaker, would be the first female mayor of New York City if elected.
Sarandon showed up at a de Blasio fundraiser Sunday night and according to the New York Observer, had this to say about the primary candidates and endorsing for reasons other than gender: As a woman, initially I was interested in Quinn. It became clear to me that, you know as a woman, you cant just vote your vagina. Sarandon evidently learned more about the de Blasio campaign from Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon, who also endorsed his candidacy.
The actress reportedly became disillusioned with Quinn over issues such as term limits and paid sick leave. She also favors his emphasis on education. I was impressed with the idea of Bills focus on education because I believe that is what gives you a belief in the future.

(5,420 posts)still not creepy. She is not a one issue voter.
Uncle Joe
(58,420 posts)had been President throughout history, men would be at least first drawn to a man candidate for President so I can understand that.
It's not an insult to women that feel this way.
But To my way of thinking qualifications, issues, policies and experience; all of that should be preeminent that's why I support Bernie Sanders.
If I felt a woman was most qualified for the job and I agreed with her policies, I would have no problem supporting her over any male candidate.
Uncle Joe
(58,420 posts)what Susan said and this is the only thing I could find.

(5,420 posts)I personally don't care if she actually said it or not. Didn't if first come from someone in the Senate that she was probably tongue in cheeking on? But I get her point and like Sarandon.

(12,504 posts)your Bernie supporters hate it when people change their minds...right?
This article makes it sound like Sarandon doesn't do any research until after she has made an endorsement.
Uncle Joe
(58,420 posts)there's a major difference in stating that you're for a given political policy or ideal when in fact you worked against it over years.
Sheepshank
(12,504 posts)and disagree with the rest of your text.
My post was intended to be quite facetious. I think people can and should change their minds when they have new info to weigh and consider...even if they fought for a political ideology. Elizabeth Warren is a prime example
Uncle Joe

(12,504 posts)Every good Democratic leader should be representing their constituency, not their own personal ideology. Given information and data, the consensus about same sex marriage has changed, as has the concerns over social security and most other long term arguing points. We should all want our political leaders to not dig their heels in the ground and protect outdated and incorrect ideologies, and instead grow with new information.
I say that ALL political leaders, including Republicans should be open to change and evolving. They seem to be the worst at digging in their heels and fight change (climate change for example), even in the face of overwhelming evidence. I don't find that "never changing" type of characteristic to be particularly useful in leadership.
Uncle Joe
(58,420 posts)Political leaders do their utmost in representing the best interests of their constituents, but that doesn't always mean going with majority opinion but using the best knowledge and information to the representative at the time combined with a strong moral foundation of what's right and wrong. Many times they will be trudging on the road less traveled. This has held particularly true in our nation over the past thirty years or so as our monopolized corporate media conglomerations laden with conflict of interest have accumulated such great persuasive power over the American People, in many cases misleading them, just for self-interest purposes.
A political leader does just that, leads the way.
Politicians to their utmost to in representing the best interests for themselves, they constantly keep their finger to the political winds and aren't the least bit hesitant at jumping in front of the parade. Their prime directive is remaining in power, if they can throw their constituents a few bones, that's fine with them so long as it doesn't rock the boat soaking the powers that be. Politicians primarily focus their energy on raising money for the next election and they will take from anyone anywhere.
A politician isn't a leader but a follower.
Sheepshank
(12,504 posts)You definitions of politician vs political leaders just is and can never be defined in such absolute terms.....moderation in all things otherwise the political leader as you described becomes a dictator.
Uncle Joe
(58,420 posts)History has shown that dictators fundamentally base their decisions on self-interest, delusions of grandeur, not a strong moral foundation of right and wrong, nor representing the best interests of their constituents.

(5,420 posts)Bernie Sanders supporters hate it when people change their minds? Where do you get that? You mean because they hate that Clinton changes her mind according to what she thinks will go over well mostly do to polls she buys? I think that is why they call her weathervane and they are pretty sure that almost everything she is saying now, following Bernie, will change if she does get there.
But I don't think Sanders supporters hate people who change their mind in particular.
