We were mislead ... I have NEVER been so ashamed of our leaders ... and it cost lives and trillions of $$$, along with Bush's taxcuts this also helped to cause our ecomony to slide. Are we going to be mislead again?

(75,480 posts)It was also a botched mess. I remember a story of one of the marines put on land who had to use his credit card to call one of the warships off shore from a phone booth to stop bombing them. Their usual communication had failed.
As far as Iraq though, it's probably the first time that (according to wikipedia) 36 million people across the globe took part in almost 3,000 protests against the Iraq war. In spite of overwhelming disapproval across the country and all over the world, Bush/Cheney invaded Iraq anyway. So it's historical in that sense.

(36,418 posts)Grenada wasn't much of an invasion as these things go, and was thrown together at the last minute. I still remember the TV news shots of one of the "student hostages" kissing the ground after arrival back in the US (none of them were ever in any danger - the whole thing was staged by the Reagan-Bush Admin.). Propaganda mind f-ck.

(466 posts)US struck first.
Britain was impeding our trade, firing on our ships, and pressing (Drafting for military service against France) our citizens for years before the war.
It's very unlikely the war would have occurred if it weren't for incidents like the Chesapeake-Leopard.
the attack on Pearl Harbour was justified due to the US oil embargo.

(1,354 posts)US Ops in Latin America in the 1970s and 190s were pre-emptive--to drive ot so called communist governments/forces. Same to a lesser extent in Africa and the Middle East aroud then. Those wars may have cost less, but were still unofficial.

(17,751 posts)Plus, wouldn't overthrowing democracies or funding "contras" of some sort be considered striking first?
America is a pox on this planet. Not surprising that subjugated peoples over this planet hate the US.
