(15,667 posts)If Obama were to secure 70% of the Latino vote Romney would have no chance at all.

(3,073 posts)Mostly the ones not born here since once their children get educated, most- not all, become more progressive. But those who are still attached to the GOP Anti-Castro rhetoric and anger over opening ties to Cuba, will always vote GOP. As for the rest- it's difficult to understand why they would ever consider voting GOP- unless they like the idea of self deportation... But then again, I cannot understand why any woman, minority or gay person would vote GOP yet there are many that will. Go figure.

(5,526 posts)I was wondering what the breakdown of percentages would be in the cuban versus non-cuban communities.
I would add that the Cuban community is also very susceptible to the claims of socialism/communism. I hear that response a lot.

(34,857 posts)It's affluent Latinos who probably are very assimilated into the community, maybe second or even third generation America, so they're not as invested in their emigrant roots like others. They also might be extremely religious, Catholic, of course, and therefore pro-life and against gay marriage.
Just thoughts. 28% of Latinos is not a huge number when you compare it to the entire spectrum of the voting population. So, we're dealing with a very small minority in a minority group as is.

(18,634 posts)There was a solid 28% for Bush too.
The support never went below that.

(35,699 posts)The non Cuban Hispanic vote in Florida was greater than the Cuban vote for the first time in 2008 and it helped tilt Florida to Obama. The Hispanic vote should be even stronger for Obama this time.
