@MartinOMalley campaign commits to @KevinFranck to appointing an LGBT member of cabinet http://baywindows.com/Franck-Talk #nhpolitics

In response to repeated questions from Bay Windows, the campaigns of Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton pointed to their candidates’ solid records on LGBT issues, but would not say whether an LGBT Vice Presidential candidate is a possibility. Only former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley told Bay Windows he would consider a running mate from our community. O’Malley even went a step further, promising to appoint an LGBT Cabinet member.

All three Democratic candidates have excellent records on LGBT policy issues. Sanders fought DOMA before it was cool. O’Malley rolled up his sleeves to help Maryland pass a pro-marriage equality ballot initiative. And Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, is the first openly gay man to manage a presidential campaign.

No one can credibly argue that Clinton and Sanders do not support LGBT equality, so why are they hesitant to say they are open to teaming up with a Friend of Dorothy or a Daughter of Bilitis in the General Election? The answer could have more to do with political realities than ideology.

While public opinion on issues like marriage equality and acceptance of gay and lesbian people has shifted dramatically in our favor in recent years, the effect an LGBT running mate might have on a Democrat’s chances of holding onto the White House is an open question...

Maybe for the first presidential cycle in our nation’s history, there’s a chance an LGBT running mate could actually help a Democrat, and there are LGBT Americans who are qualified to be Vice President and prepared to do the hard work of campaigning. All of which makes the silence from Clinton and Sanders even more confounding.

...btw, I really don't know if the Clinton or Sanders campaigns are represented correctly in this article.

If neither of their potential VP's choices are LGBT then the point is moot!
