Sexism and Misogyny exist. FACT.

So, don't be so surprised when womens groups endorse Hillary.

You can scream, pump your fists, get all enraged.... But try to understand...

There has never been a woman president.

Hillary is the first to really have a chance. A democratic woman who has a long history of the same type of advocacy as these groups. Womens groups will support her. D'uh.

51% or more, sometimes a lot more, Americans support EACH and EVERY one of those things.

The New Deal was a set of socialist programs. Social Security is socialist. Medicare is socialist. They popular? Hell yes.

By the way, there are 80 million young Millennials, and they don't see socialism in a bad light like us baby boomers are supposed to.

Nope, Bernie's gonna do just fine. You've got to remember the Dems are pretty safe with 217 of the 538 electoral votes. If you add Iowa, Pennsylvania and Nevada - all lean blue in a presidential year, the Dems only need to pick up 21 more electoral votes to win.

Not only that, but if Rump wins the GOP nod, Democrats everywhere are going to be quite motivated to get to the polls.

Lastly, there's another very big difference between Clinton and Sanders.

We won't have to hold our collective noses to vote for Sanders, where Clinton will very much be perceived as the lesser of evils - she sucks, but she doesn't suck quite as bad as the Republican candidate. And you know, I'm sick of having to vote like that. I like Bernie. I like his positions. I like his track record. I like his morality, honesty and ethics. In fact, rj, I support every single thing Bernie is advocating.

I honestly think if Bernie were Barbara, and based on his rhetoric, and same Congressional and Senate Record, he/she would still be at 25-30%.

I do think there is a component that Hillary is a female, but only with respect to the idea that she is a female that has accomplished much. The female side of Hillary raises the enthusiasm quotient for her likely voters.

If this were only about chromosomes, the nation would have seen a better showing from Fiorina or even Palin.

Jan 2016

The point here is not that Clinton supporters would back Fiorina in the (highly improbable) event of a Sanders versus Fiorina general election. I think a few would, but most wouldn't.

The point is that, in selecting a candidate, there are considerations other than shattering that glass ceiling, and that different people attach different weights to the various considerations.

As to "a future where everything is possible": If you mean that the one step of electing a woman as President would eliminate all barriers and render everything possible, then I disagree. A little baby girl born on January 20, 2017 will still face barriers and other problems arising from sexism, regardless of who was inaugurated on her birthday. Presumably the inauguration of either Clinton or Fiorina would contribute to the erosion of sexism, but it would not be a cure-all.

My main reasons for supporting Hillary is immigration reform (she voted for it, unlike Sanders, who repeatedly voted against it)

He stance on gun control, and now her Autism platform -which has only cemented for me that I made the right choice.

And yes, her being a woman is ANOTHER part of it. ONE aspect which will make me proud.

GET IT?

Do I believe her election will eliminate all barriers? Of course not. But it will be a GIGANTIC step forward, whether you disagree or not.

Shattering that glass ceiling will make an enormous positive impact on girls, whether you like it or not. It will be a historic day, and I can't wait to be part of it

Jan 2016
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/andrea-dew-steele/why-hillary-clinton-has-t_b_8073982.html

Globally, no candidate has done more for women's rights than Secretary Clinton. In her time as Secretary of State, she appointed the first-ever Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues at the State Department; oversaw the creation of the U.S. National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security; and introduced the Global Health Initiative (GHI), investing $63 billion to help partner countries provide robust maternal and infant health services. Secretary Clinton has worked tirelessly to elevate women's rights as the key towards economic prosperity and global stability. Her public and private initiatives have appropriated millions of dollars towards providing secondary education to young girls around the world, and tackling the obstacles that face at-risk youths.

The best predictor of future performance is past performance, and when it comes to women's issues, the record is clear. Hillary Clinton is the best candidate for women -- not simply because she is one -- but because she holds the strongest and most consistent record of effectively championing women's rights, economically, socially and politically. Breaking the ultimate glass ceiling does not constitute a political strategy, but electing a strong woman with a concrete track record of protecting and defending women's rights certainly does.

I'm assuming you're referring to Hillary Clinton's realistic, mainstream - both within the Democratic Party and the American political spectrum in general - economic views and voting record?

For the record, the far Left has been discredited by history and no reputable economist takes them seriously. Also for the record: there is a world of qualitative difference between the impact a Hillary Clinton Presidency would have on women and minorities (very positive) vs. that of a Republican Presidency (very negative), especially in the second decade of the 21st century. Which leaves you in a curious place. Where, in American politics, would you position someone who isn't exactly happy with what Wall Street and the banks have gotten away with? Are we all far left? Should history dismiss us?

Is what Wall Street and the banking industry done to average American ok with you?

If so, I totally get your attitude and support of Clinton.

They are damaging their reputation as an organization that is friendly to poor women.
One thing Hillary is depriving so many of us is the opportunity to vote for the first woman presidential candidate with enthusiasm. As it stands, a lot of people I know will vote for her if she's the nominee, but only reluctantly.

look at the comments when Mrs. Clinton expresses "anger".

Sanders' supporters get all huffy when a woman dares stand up for herself and her beliefs. It's pathetic.

Genuine anger is a different than what Hillary does. She's stiff and unnatural, sorry....jump up and down, pump your fists all you want and those of us who have watched the Clintons for decades aren't buying it, none of it, at all.

94. The OP did not say "Hillary haters" hate women. Your post does not follow.
Fri Jan 8, 2016, 05:17 PM
Jan 2016

The OP said many women's organizations support Hillary solely because she is a woman in a society where women are often treated as second class citizens. The only shout out to Bernie supporters is that we should not be surprised by that.

And I, for one, am not. Sure, Bernie's position on abortion is much stronger than Hillary's. Based on positions alone, Hillary would be the wrong endorsement for Planned Parenthood. But they thought breaking the glass ceiling was more important than her supporting limitations and shaming on abortion.

Of course, there is also the danger that Hillary would win, and Hillary famously ranks supporters, opponents and neutrals so she knows just how much support each will get if she wins. They know they will have Bernie's support no matter what. So there is no danger endorsing Clinton, but a possible danger in not endorsing her. It may have simply been that political calculus. And you really can't blame them for wanting to avoid the risk of getting on the wrong side of someone who is already only a lukewarm supporter.

It's just that nobody backs Bernie out of sexism or misogyny.

It's not sexism or misogyny to oppose the most conservative Democrat in the presidential race. Those of us who support Bernie over HRC would still do so if HRC were male or Bernie was female. And everyone here knows it.

All those grand promises he makes that isn't even within the realm of Presidential authority, or would require the support of a 115th congress that isn't even potential to exist makes him either a liar or incredibly ignorant on how the government runs.

If he did get elected, only 1 of 2 possibilities: he either does as President Obama did, learn to work with congress, and compromise (thereby pissing off many of those who supported him), or he sticks to his guns and becomes the most worthless president in history.

So I'll vote for progress (even if it is slow) over hot air and no progress.

Thank you.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

brand new member has a "list" and is stating who will be welcome around here after the primaries?

JURY RESULTS

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Jan 8, 2016, 02:44 AM, and the Jury voted 5-2 to HIDE IT.

Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: 11 posts? Really? Someone trying to stir shit and dictate who will be welcome back including..

"If any of these people think they will be welcome back on DU after the primaries, they are wrong (that includes you too, George II). Such treasonous behavior will be not be forgiven or forgotten. We have a list of the members there, and most of the HOF and AA groups are among them. These right wingers and corporate shills posing as progressives do not belong here."

Who does that?! Who the hell is this guy, with his "We list"?.. Who's the "We"? Telling who's Welcome back.. maybe Skinner should have a talk with him?

Oh and BS are his initials.. if you don't like it.. talk to Bernie Sanders.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: rotten sock
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT

and women.

How ANYONE could consider themselves a "liberal" and be perpetually at war with minority groups, including two of the most UNIVERSALLY oppressed groups on this planet is a disconnect too great to either believe or diagnose.

You can tell a hell of a lot about a person by their friends, you can tell even more by their enemies. And I can't speak for anyone but myself but I am happy as hell to have the intense dislike/hatred of ignorant, hateful, no class having bigots who I wouldn't waste a second of my life around, in real life or online.

97. Booom! I'm glad you got to see this, 23.. the prevailing insanity needs to be exposed.

Exactly right.. this nameremoved guy is insanely afraid of women and African Americans.. How very strange when they, as well as LGBTQ, are our most oppressed minorities as you pointed out.

He also thinks he owns this board.. now who the hell would be thinking that? Someone very delusional that's who.

which makes it hard to bear when i see womens groups endorse the warmongering corporatist candidate against higher min wage, single payer healthcare, etc. need i go on?

voting for the female is not inherently progressive or pro-woman. voting progressive policies and progressive candidates is the most pro-woman political action.

Or they hope the rest of us do not.

I would never support a candidate based on gender or endorsements. Absolutely never. And if Hillary is such a lock, why all the bother with this stuff? Makes no sense.

100. Why do you bring Palin up here?
Fri Jan 8, 2016, 10:02 PM
Jan 2016

I support Clinton not because she is a woman it is because she supports my values. I don't give a blank check to all women. Palin most certainly would not have supported my ideals. It's almost like you are saying we will only support a woman because they are just that, sorry we have brains and we know how to use them.

I am not on your side.

OP said.

Hillary is the first to really have a chance. A democratic woman who has a long history of the same type of advocacy as these groups. Womens groups will support her. D'uh.

Hillary has my best interests at heart, as the OP says..." a long history of the same type of advocacy as these groups." She is the best candidate for me and mine. Bernie just wants to break up banks, Me, I want to have things fixed not broken.

Tossing Palin into the mix, sorry that was kind of stupid. Sorta like Sarandon saying she was not voting with her vagina, intimating others were.

As I said, we have brains and know how to use them.

I have no use for people who tell comfortable little untruths to meet some perceived social nicety goal.

And with respect to Susan Sarandon, you guys attacking her means you've lost. She's way the fuck more progressive and feminist than almost anyone out there. When I see people slamming Susan Sarandon, I know I'm dealing with people whose interests are very, very different than mine.

I haven't posted about her, disappointed yes, but whatever.

Yet you are here attacking me. You are one of the reasons I seldom post here anymore, so I don't have to read crap like this.....

So you know all the feminists out there? You know our heart and soul? Question? Were you a staunch feminist supporter before Bernie became a "feminist".

If so. I am sure I can google your unrelenting support to our cause.

Then they're no better then sexist men. You either stand on principles, or you don't have any. FACT. Voting for a lousy candidate because of gender is wrong both ways. D'uh.
