Hillary Clinton says therapy to turn gay kids straight must be banned

Hillary Clinton has taken to social media to express her support of banning so-called ‘conversion therapy’ in the US, a controversial practice which attempts to ‘cure’ gay children and turn them straight.

The Democratic Presidential candidate tweeted on Thursday that “LGBT kids don’t need to be “cured” of anything”.

Mrs Clinton spoke in Nevada on Wednesday and took the opportunity to also denounce Republicans who voted to defund pro-choice organisation Planned Parenthood and repeal Obamacare.

The most recent state to ban conversion therapy for minors was Illinois, which came into effect on 1 January.

I'd be equally unimpressed if she had declared that women definitely should have the right to vote, or that slavery should definitely be illegal.

If she wants to bring it up in the general when/if she's running against someone who might actually disagree with her then great, but during the primary it just seems very hollow. Especially considering her questionable background on gay rights.

... his fans would have been shouting about it from the rooftops (and jeering at Hillary for not having "said it first".) They'd be questioning if Hillary really cares about gay youth, and making other typical and predictable insinuations.

We'd be hearing all sorts of comments about how noble and progressive Bernie is, and how he's the ONLY one who cares enough to educate people about what an horrid practice this is. And we'd be reminded that if Hillary had similar views, then she'd be accused of "copying Bernie".

You know I'm right. I've seen several instances of "Bernie said it first" in retort to a policy statement or a position that was taken by Hillary.

...but during the primary it just seems very hollow.
Because when two candidates agree on something, they should NEVER talk about it or try to enlighten others about the problem. The primary should ONLY be about the differences and the fighting ... woo-hoo!

Genius!

O'Malley didn't outlaw it in Maryland, Illinois didn't outlaw it, California and New Jersey have outlawed it within this decade. I am not sure any state had outlawed it before 2010. So yeah, this issue might matter a bit.

Maybe she can come out
against poisoning water too.

Someone has to take these hard positions first after all.
