2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumGovernor O'Malley isn't your anti-Clinton attack dog.
Some of you seem to have some serious misconceptions about O'Malley. He's not simply in this to take shots at Clinton and subsequently validate Sanders. O'Malley supporters aren't just little Sanders supporters.
O'Malley took on the NRA and won. He ended the blight on Maryland that was the state's death penalty. He introduced bureaucratic reforms that helped take care of Maryland's veterans.
He's led the 2016 Democratic field on issues nobody else even talks about. He's personally worked with national veterans groups to develop the most comprehensive plan to address the needs of current and former servicemembers and their families--the suicide epidemic, homelessness, PTSD, and protecting our education benefits. He's led the way on addiction treatment and viewing the alcohol and drug dependent as humans who need help and not incarceration.
I'm deeply sorry Governor O'Malley said some things that upset Sanders supporters, but he's not your pet to unleash on Clinton when you want. He's a progressive, a leader, and the future of our party--and if you don't already, you need to start taking him seriously.

(462 posts)However, the more crap he tosses at Sanders the less I like him. I don't care about legitimate issue attacks like guns, but I sure as hell care about this debate nonsense. O'Malley knows exactly why Sanders didn't agree, and he's twisting it to suit his purposes. If he thinks I didn't notice, he's mistaken. This has nothing to do with him attacking Clinton and everything to do with throwing out bullshit about Sanders.

(462 posts)I expect this to be a debate on issues. I expect that from all 3 candidates.

(14,449 posts)However, we really don't know how he'd do with a republican house or and senate. He pretty much could pass whatever he wanted in Maryland. Not so easy in the federal. And the NRA complaing about gun control is not the same as convincing Repugs to support his agenda. Most Americans realize that which is why he is at 4 percent.

(131,063 posts)e went round and round on lots of issues, stuck with the difficult ones for a long time, gun control is only one example.
'Most Americans' realize NOTHING about him, the msm AND dnc won't allow any info to enable ANY SUCH realization.

(14,449 posts)But not me. I liked his policies and glad it was easy for him. I'm just saying it won't be as easy as president.

(131,063 posts)Everything was NOT easy for him, as he's said, he has the raw knuckles to prove it.
EVERYONE knows it won't be easy as president, but he has the experience no other Democratic candidate has in working toward consensus, and that's very valuable experience.
I understand that many would like to diminish the importance of his experience. Doing so does NOT serve Democrats well, tho.
Examples:
Budget
O'Malley called a special session of the General Assembly in November 2007 to close a projected budget deficit of $1.7 billion for 20082009.[46] In response, O'Malley and other lawmakers passed a tax plan that would raise total state tax collections by 14%.[47] In April 2009, O'Malley signed a traffic speed camera enforcement law, a bill which he supported and fought for in order to help raise revenue to try to balance the deficit facing Maryland. Through strong lobbying by O'Malley, the bill was revived after first having been defeated. After a second vote, the measure passed.[48]

(1,309 posts)about KowTowing to wall Street donors. I want someone like Bernie who is the people's man. I want democracy , not another smug elitist who always believes the people are just not smart enough to govern themselves. That is why Bernie beats O Malley so much. If he was there fighting Clinton and the oligarchy , I would have a lot more respect for him, but like Clinton, he comes across as arrogant, smug, and self-absorbed. He should pull out now and quit using time during the debates. He keeps saying I did this or I did that but his details are so sketchy , he just loses everyone who is not well acquainted with his resume. He is just too little and much too late. Right now he is like Trump eating up air time which supports Hillary. Pull out now, Martin.
