Related: About this forumI cannot believe what this woman just said about Sanders' supporters
"Sanders' supporters are also Trump supporters." She was featured on Lawrence O'Donnell's show this evening. I had to look her up because I could not believe anyone could actually make a remark like this. So here she is:
https://www.facebook.com/carriesheffield/?ref=br_rs
Carrie Sheffield.
She also mentioned Sanders is a part of the fringe. When O'Donnell questioned her on this, she said, "Of course he is. He is a Socialist."
This woman is either incredibly dumb, very disingenuous or is desperate to drive people to her Facebook page (which is of course what I just did).
I am speechless. How low can these people go?
BUT
All of this was in the context of Sanders' seeking to siphon off some of Trump's supporters. I have always said since this race started I thought Sanders would attract a good number of Republicans. And now that this is a topic of political speculation on MSNBC no less, I have caught my breath and say to Trump supporters who also sympathize with the middle class losses as well as those of the poor these last few decades, come on over, the water is fine. Feel the Bern.

And as Very Rich, Incredibly Wealthy Guy has told us, he is part of the One Percent too also! It's just so humbling to be posting on the same blog as Very Rich, Incredibly Wealthy Guy!
Or is he a wanna-be One Percenter, posting from his mother's basement? Because why on earth would any Very Rich, Incredibly Wealthy Guy Who Drives A Ferrari spend time blogging with the likes of us!?!?!?

(9,314 posts)Sure sounds like the same level of stupidity. Advocates more education but not higher minimum wage. Aren't many who are trying to work their way through college having to take minimum wage jobs to help pay their tuition? Wouldn't a raise to a decent level help that effort a lot?

Honestly, I think I've actually heard this one splattered around here and there over the past several days, from the usual shitstirrers.
I think someone actually tried to link Sanders with the RNC chair/GOP, That one didn't grow any legs despite the initial effort.

(38,613 posts)There is a vast number of fucked-over, disaffected people out there who are desperate enough to accept a lie (Trump), but who can be reached with the truth (Sanders). While many of them are also racist assholes, many more are simply uninformed or unaware.
The trick being played here is to take the worst Trump supporter and make them into every Sanders supporter.

(9,314 posts)Sanders makes the point that many Republicans on issues agree with Democrats. They support Social Security, Medicare, a fair wage, unemployment benefits (you know the range) and they are adamantly against a continuation of the way things have been, and they want real change. In theory, Trump seems to offer Change by insulting people and demeaning programs/issues. The reality is though he does not promote a higher minimum wage or improving the lives of ordinary middle class/low income people. And that latter point is exactly what Sanders promotes. Sanders does so in a respectful way, while Trump campaigns on hate and divisiveness, which two words are not in Sanders' vocabulary.

This is her brother:
In the summer of 2005, Media Research Center launched the NewsBusters, a website "dedicated to exposing & combating liberal media bias," in cooperation with Matthew Sheffield, a conservative blogger involved in the CBS Killian documents story. NewsBusters is styled as a rapid-response blog site that contains posts by MRC editors to selected stories in mass media.[22] Although the site is advertised chiefly as a conservative site, it frequently defends Neoconservatives as well.[23] Not only does the site highlight journalists it deems are liberally biased, but also non-journalists (writers, musicians, producers, scientists, etc.) who they perceive have liberal viewpoint.[24][25][26][27] In addition to conventional media outlets, NewsBusters has attacked Wikipedia over perceived liberal bias in its John Edwards discussion pages.[28] At the NewsBusters site, a semi-weekly mock newscast called NewsBusted parodies recent events. The NewsBusted programs are often uploaded to sites such as YouTube.[29]

(9,314 posts)We have learned some hard lessons by the losses of the Oval Office in 2000 (stolen) and 2004 (purloined). The consequence of that was not lost on Barack Obama, whose amazing team (many of whom) now works with Bernie Sanders. I believe the one thing most of us have implanted on our brains is we have to stand up and act like Republicans beating our chests and protecting our candidate. Even the least* of us is ready to fight....

Digital firm Revolution Messaging runs Sanders online fundraising and social media efforts big for a candidate wholl rely on small-dollar contributions and benefits from a strong social-media presence. Four members of the team worked on Barack Obamas insurgent 2008 campaign Scott Goodstein, who ran Obamas social media efforts; Shauna Daly, who was deputy research director for the campaign; Arun Chaudhary, who ultimately became the first official White House videographer; and Walker Hamilton, the site architect for Obamas campaign. Kenneth Pennington, who ran Sanders Senate social media platform, and Keegan Goudiss, a Revolution Messaging partner who has worked for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, will also work on the digital team.

This routine you folks are doing, when seen in the historic reality of our candidates doing low level pandering to bigots to get their votes starts looking really fucked up. Is it different because they were anti gay bigots? Different because that was all 'Christian' and Bernie is not a Holy Pants Baptist type weeping along with Rick Warren?

(9,314 posts)The Socialists in Vermont distance themselves from him (well, they couldn't decide whether or not to endorse him because there are differences between the types of socialists....) Because there was no such label available in the House or Senate for such a classified person, he was labeled an Independent. The Independent caucused with the Democrats.
Bernie says he has always supported Democratic values but he goes a little farther to include the priority that government should work for all of the people, just not exclusively for the corporations and the rich.
Personally, I do not care what he calls himself; I support his ideas and believe in his integrity and that is all that concerns me. I have seen too many people label themselves Democrats over the years who turned out to be Trojan Horses.
I don't know what her point was but the above represents my understanding of things.....

Just because we don't all subscribe to the same opinions about some things-just because we identify differently re: party affiliation doesn't mean we can't come together for a candidate who IS blazing the trail for Us to reclaim Our seats at the "People's Government" table-so we can All get back to doing whatever it is that improves quality of life for ourselves, family and friends.

History is replete with examples, from the former Soviet Union to East Germany, China, Cuba, North Korea, etc., that illustrate Tea Partiers' legitimate fears. (9,314 posts)It is just so typical how commentators twist words to make one situation appear to be entirely another. I assume this comment was issued due to the publicity given to Sanders' courting Trump supporters. He typically gets about 25 percent of the Republican vote in Vermont when he runs, and he has said on many, many issues Democrats and Republicans agree on many things: Social Security, Medicare, Medical care for veterans, disability benefits, unemployment benefits (hey, many of these are somewhat "socialist" aren't they?)
