2016 Postmortem

But these Arab protests over a movie that is months old (with the producer of the movie mysteriously disappearing untraced), burning american flags, storming embassies, crowds whipped up into a frenzy by god knows who, the parallels to Carter.....this smells like an Israeli false flag operation to influence the election.
Am I nuts?
Talk me down please.

And Bebe hates Obama.
I'm not commenting on anything specific in your post. Just pointing out these facts. It is certainly curious.

I hate it when people act like those that believe in conspiracies are crazy.
Not saying one is happening in this case, but they do occur, and yes JFK was killed in one.

(8,791 posts)I'm one of those people that laughs at conspiracy theorists. But something just doesn't smell right with this.
What got me especially suspicious was reading about the filmaker of this movie:
Reports published by The Associated Press and the Wall Street Journalidentified the filmmaker as Sam Bacile. The AP described Bacile as a 56-year-old Israeli American real estate developer from California; the Journal said he was a 52-year-old real estate developer, but did not say where he lived. Both news organizations said that they interviewed Bacile, who was said to be in hiding, by phone, and both quoted him as saying the film was intended to show that "Islam is a cancer."
"This is a political movie," the AP quoted him as saying. "The U.S. lost a lot of money and a lot of people in wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we're fighting with ideas."

But by midday Wednesday, Bacile's credibility -- indeed his very existence -- were being questioned:

Troy this sounds like something the Mossad would do. Have you watched Munich?

(4,551 posts)Well I don't when they are well-documented and well-researched and backed up by evidence. If they're crazy theories by nutty people (like some of the anti-Obama folks who just came out with another "Obama was known to be gay in Chicago" story yesterday), then I discount them.
But like many people, I very much believe that JFK, RFK & MLK were assassinated in conspiracies. The evidence is overwhelming in those cases.
On this latest incident I don't have an opinion yet because I haven't studied and researched it the way I have with the above cases.

(10,283 posts)No need to reverse engineer your theory into something Hollywood just because of "Carter" etc. The blowhards on the right ARE going to make those comparisons, no matter what the facts of the crisis are.

You could be on to something.

(3,425 posts)So it is not a stretch to think that it was made as part of a larger scheme. It could have been some kind of Al Quaida plan or the Israeli government trying to influence the election. I think it would be even money on either group.

(1,947 posts)And I do think it was deliberately timed to happen around 9/11, because the video with Arabic subtitles was not posted until 9/4, one week earlier. But I'm not sure that this is being coordinated to affect the election. The video seems pretty clearly to have been produced by Egyptian Coptic Christians in southern California, unhappy about the treatment they have sometimes received from Muslims in Egypt. Some of them to have connections to the anti-Muslims among the Christian right, however, they seem to have their own independent agenda and do not seem to like Romney or Obama, as near as I can tell.

(25 posts)I can see that maybe it was timed by protesters to coincide with 9-11; but I don't see an Israeli connection. They are too good at his stuff to be so ham-handed. Plus, the timing is wrong. You want an October Surprise (see Ronny Raygun & '80 election).
Now, I CAN see a generic strategy decision by Womney to take advantage of any perceived foreign policy situation & exploit/twist the hell out of it.
