(57,349 posts)I'm sure the hell not, people going hungry, dying from lack of health care, unarmed black kids being gunned down by cops, never-ending war, reproductive rights being taken away, if you're content you're not paying attention.

(11,495 posts)Then say Mitt Romney was in the WH, or say a McCain Palin WH.
I am also sure that whichever one of our nominees, I prefer Martin O'Malley, ends up in the WH, it will be a million times better than any of those running on the GOP ticket. Just saying.

(11,495 posts)I said that I am more content than if those other two republicans had won the WH. We have come a long way since Bush took us to the edge of a depression, and as I stated, no matter which one of the three candidates wins the WH, we will be a hell of lot better than if some republican clown would win.
See that wasn't so hard to understand.

(57,349 posts)Being content with our lot leads to inaction, we need someone like Bernie to remind us of how far we have to go, and to fight for those who get left behind.
Andy823
(11,495 posts)I totally agree, but they also could be worse. Millions of people do have health care now, but would never have gotten it if a republican were in the WH.
People have jobs, true many still do not, but again it's a lot better than if a republican were in office.
Yes, wages are till way to low, but again what would they look like today if there were a republican in the WH, and republicans in control of both branches of congress?
President Obama had done a lot to help this country, and as I said we need to do more, but that won't happen with a republican in the WH, it will if we have one of the three candidates we have running in the WH.
I was raised to help the less fortunate also, and I do. I donate to charities, I give clothes and household goods to the senior citizens center in my town to help them take care of seniors that are in need. I donate to food banks, and have given coats to a group here that gets them out to children who come from poor families. I do whatever I can to help.
Being glad for all the things we have now that we wouldn't have if a republican had been in the WH is not about "privilege" it's about being thankful that people can still have a chance to keep going forward if we get one of our three candidates in the WH in 2016. I don't know about you, but I think going forward is much bette than join backwards, which is what will happen of a republican wins next year.
Nobody could have done any better that president Obama has done, and nobody we put in the WH will be able to get everything that every person in this country wants done either, but our candidates offer a much better further than the republicans do, don't you think?

(57,349 posts)Like I don't know how important that is, what's at stake or that things could be worse.
It's a little preachy.
You're assuming an awful lot about someone you don't know anything about.
Andy823
(11,495 posts)You asked about being content with things today, I explained how I felt, you asked what that he'd to do with your question, I replied again. I keep expressing how "I" feel about things, and explained that how I felt had nothing to do with "privilege". I am not one of the 1%. I for one have benefited from the ACA just this year. Without health insurance I would have had to pay over $50,000.00 in medical bills. My wife almost died, but we had insurance and she is alive today because of that, and we did not have to sell our home to pay off medical bills. My daughter has a pre-existing condition that before the ACA, should would have been in a high risk group, and could not have afforded the monthly premiums.
I know we need to get more done. I know people still need help. I myself believe Martin O'Malley had the best plans I have read so far on fixing things, and being able to accomplish what he sets out to do. I also believe that Bernie would do a good job, and that Hillary would be better than any republican, even if I prefer the other two first and second.
I always have said that keeping the WH is the main goal, and I honestly believe all of our candidates are acceptable come the GE.
I am sorry you thought I was assuming you did not care.

But no, I'm not discontent that Santa didn't provide a lot of material shit that probably wouldn't make me happy anyway.
My present this year- I got my leaky faucet fixed and I can now cook Christmas dinner without water leaking all over my counter top. BTW, we're having fried potatoes and hamburgers.
Sincerely hope your Christmas dinner table is filled with abundance this year, I worry that far too many people's is not.

polly7
(20,582 posts)I learned long ago that compassion, or even an attempt at empathy isn't something that's at all possible for many people in the world. It's the 'I've got mine' thing ....... what really bothers many who hate the thought of radical change to the status quo is the unfounded fear of losing what's comfortable. A leaky tap that makes cooking and cleaning a pita (I've got one too .... I have the cleanest kitchen floor on the planet, I'm sure, I wipe it so often) .......... 'pshaw'.

I got money and gift-cards to The Gap. Do I strike you as a person that shops at The Gap?
I think it's amusing that Sanders is fundraising off people's gift-getting discontent. I'd think it amusing if Hillary did too. I don't take this holiday so seriously as some people.
It's about fun and family and learning to live with the disappointment that other people can't read your mind.
