EDITORIAL: The Force is with Hillary Clinton

The third Democratic debate should serve as a wake-up call to Republicans: Hillary Clinton will be a formidable foe, and the Force is with her.
On stage in New Hampshire, a state in which polls showed Clinton in a veritable tie with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders before the debate, Clinton left little question she is stronger, more knowledgeable and more presidential than Sanders or former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley.
................................."
Eight years later, he asked, should corporate America love Hillary Clinton?
"Everybody should," Hillary said with a smile, countering a "likability" deficit that has challenged her throughout the campaign. The audience loved it.
..................................
Clinton stood out as the only candidate to rule out a tax increase on the middle class.
.........................
The 52-year-old O'Malley generated booing by offering a gobbled foreign policy philosophy he billed as a "different generation's perspective," in a misplaced and awkward effort to emphasize the age of Clinton (68) and Sanders (74).
............
Clinton again highlighted depth and an ability to command the stage, concluding with "may the Force be with you." Republicans will be wise to find a candidate soon and get serious about taking on a woman who continues improving her game with a void of serious intraparty challengers.

(5,402 posts)The thing about The Force, is that good people and bad people can have it with them.
Clinton is like Count Dooku, a person who perverts the essence of democracy.

(5,402 posts)And the democracy failed there too.
As a fan of Star Wars, having grown up with this series, I find a candidate's use of the fundamental expression of the story's philosophy as demeaning as if a candidate from Wall Street had raised his hand and split his fingers in that special way to pronounce, "Live Long and Prosper."
Upon reflection, I wouldn't want any candidate to use these cherished icons to promote his or her agenda.
With you being a science fiction fan, you are accustomed (or once were accustomed) to looking forward with hope. I have a feeling there is a part of you that can see how badly the Clinton nomination will turn out.
It's so sad, riversedge, to see someone with some obvious writing ability using it in the way that you do. I have a suspicion that, if your younger self could see you across time and space, he or she would also feel sad, and wonder what caused the path to become this double-time march through a cave with no exit, trapped in the midst of angry screaming people.

(5,402 posts)And Clinton is twisting those dreams, and twisting the spirits of those who held those dreams precious, to use them for her own advancement.
It also speaks to your personality that the response you had to my post was to demean a fan of science fiction and devalue the experience of his childhood.

(25,348 posts)..Republican that is saying "We won't tax the middle class (and we absolutely will not tax any of the super-wealthy or for that matter, take away any tax cuts that they now have)
I think she's better than that. But of course, she may have meant something different.

(41,694 posts)With the possible exception of Stephen Chapman, every opinion piece was from an ultra-conservative
Not that Chapman is a winner, but he was a supporter of legalized drugs, supported glbt and opposed the security state (it's my understanding he opposed the Patriot Act).
But, Chapman whined endlessly about taxes and anything built or spent by public money

Polls a few days ago had her up by 30. Now they're damn near equal? I'm sorry, but when it's a lie right out of the shoot, I'm done reading the article. But then, I don't believe polls anyways. The more I read, the more I feel that MSM is in on this big time.
