2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumWe need to support our nominee..2 Words.."Supreme Court"
I am for Bernie, but I will support Hillary, even with the issues surrounding her...
Terrible Supreme Court appointments could change this country and make it.. " far more evil"..
The clowns would appoint idiots who would overturn Roe v Wade..and Brown vs Bd of Ed.
The clowns did appoint idiots who made corporations ..people..???????????????????????
I will support Hillary even though there are issues in my mind..... so what. ????
Here is the.. most serious and most important issue for me...Far more important then other " so called issues".......
I care more about Roe v Wade .... and Hillary will appoint supporters of Roe v Wade and woman's right to choose, and Trump and the rest of the idiots will not support a woman's right to choose....
Yes, there are "issues"...but but other "issues" are more important..and remember..Supreme Court appointments are for a lifetime... (that is in the Constitution)
Clarance Thomas is going to be there for a while...who needs another Clarance Thomas?

(2,450 posts)I too have no confidence she would change anything. I know she could but she wouldn't.

(30,058 posts)Issues we accept everyday which will be turned around. CU is bad, how many more of this type will happen? Plus allowing the election of ANY Republican running will allow many changes the GOP loves, we do not need their hate laws.

(38,427 posts)But her court appointments will be far superior to those of ..ANY Republican.
Court appointments are for life.....
think about that one, please...

(38,427 posts)and...starting this discussion is important. Why? Yes there are very hard feelings on both sides of this..
It ain't easy if your nominee looses..at any point in the election cycle..but..
President Ted Cruz, or President Hillary Clinton..who are you for?
oh, you will not vote?.. Yes, I want Bernie..Yes...
but..................................................
I do not want........President Ted Cruz....under any circumstances

(13,039 posts)This Citizen will not vote for HRC because that candidate has not earned the vote of this Citizen.
That candidate speaks in platitudes and in speaking those platitudes reminds this Citizen that the candidate is owned by and in service to Oligarchs, Corporations and Banks.
This Citizen views that candidate as a repeat of O; this Citizen will never make that mistake again.

(38,427 posts)a place where people have discussions on democratic politics ..now and future..that is what this is..
and...
we are discussing potential outcomes of an upcoming primary and general election in a... .."Primary Forum"
everyone has a secret vote. of course..or ..don't vote...you have that option..
But, this discussion is about.. Why I will vote for someone who I may not like ...as opposed to
Ted Cruz, or Trumpedy Dump who I hate.
That is this discussion, ..today..Your vote is secret, and I respect that..but to me Clinton would be so much better than
Trumpedy Dump or Ted Cruz.. that is my opinion in this forum right now..

(13,039 posts)That difference is simply this ...
Continuing to vote for the lessor of two corporate evils will never break the chain of control imposed by the Oligarchs, Corporations and Banks.
So voting for a now presumptive nominee is not an option for the conscience of this Citizen.

(22,974 posts)if their chosen savior is not nominated. So fucking stupid.
BTW - I support Sanders in the primary.

I don't share your confidence that they would.

(44,124 posts)She will appoint crazy Christians and Neo-Nazis to the court just like they will.
<sarcasm>

(23,664 posts)Her appointments may not be as religiously nuts as those of Cruz et al but they will not make decisions that will favor the middle class and weaken the hold that corporate Amurka has on this country. They will not, for example. vote to repeal citizens united and if the matter reaches the court, they will not uphold a minimum wage of $15/hr or more.
Her appointments may vote the right way on issues like gay marriage, but on the really important economic matters, they will be corporate all the way.

(42,862 posts)... is more important.
They think it's equivalent to allowing an heroin addict to hit rock bottom before they are able to see the error of their ways, pick themselves up, and begin again.
It makes about as much sense as someone burning down their house (and all their belongings, and their pets) because the house needed some fixing-up and repairs.
Feh! I try to ignore the temper tantrums and vanity threats. They'll do as they please.

(12,655 posts)more people get broken up about losing their stuff over losing lives.
as to the op, i don't think it has to do with punishing the country as much as whether people have confidence in a particular candidate to make a real difference
while hrc would no doubt nominate prochoice judges, i worry that she would also nominate extremely business friendly and monsanto owned judges as well. and with the tpp looming, the business pov of the justices will be critical

(13,039 posts)Could care less if a D or a R is the president.
As long as the D or the R is their candidate, control by the Oligarchs, Corporations and Banks will continue unabated.

(44,124 posts)You may not suffer the effects of Cruz but women, minorities, the elderly, American Muslims, and the poor will. The list goes on and on.
Again you should do as you wish.
I can tell you I want Bernie as President. I know Bernie will urge people to vote for the nominee if he does not win the primary. One of his arguments will be the importance of the Supreme Court.
Have a wonderful day, CBS!

(44,124 posts)"Lesser of two evils" is merely a figure of speech, describing the voters process of choosing the candidate who is closest in ideology to themselves.
I will never in my life enable a reactionary Republican to destroy us. I am confident Bernie will not enable that either
We will have to agree to disagree. Your vote is your right.

(5,614 posts)As Sanders said last night, any of the three people on stage would be light years better than any of the GOPuke Clown Car Cavalcade.
By the way, Nader didn't cost us the election in 2000. The Supreme Court (with some cheerleading from the sidelines by Joe L) did.
Their dictate killed thousands and thousands of Americans and many, many more world wide.
I don't know how they can sleep at night.
