2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHaving seen the Dem debate tonight, I really feel that
Mrs. Clinton will be the next President of the US. She was so calm, collected and answered all the hard questions directed to her with substance. I really admire her and I am not saying this because am a female! Mr. Sanders is really liked but he will not get the nomination and if he does, that would be great. If Trump is the GOP nominee, the world needs to support Mrs. Clinton.

(14,177 posts)Right now we don't even know how many people have watched/will watch the debate. I think Sanders came away with the win. O'Malley did very well. Hillary not so much. I will transcribe some of the remarks she made that stood out to me later.

(5,704 posts)and foreign policies. O'Malley was good too. It is so hard to chose from three Dems who are on the same page as opposed to those tired republican assholes!

(14,177 posts)But, there really were other times when she appeared to be on the defensive to me and when I am a lot less tired I will rewatch the debate without ABC's crappy live stream.

(5,704 posts)to make changes that will be beneficial to Americans. Hilary is still a wall street girl and she will never change. Mrs. Clinton will never ever abandon her Wall Street supporters and that is what is scary.
The only person who appeals to me right now is Mr. Sanders, he is very progressive! I feel that President Obama could not work with Harper as President Obama was not into war mongering. Now that we have Mr. Justin Trudeau and if a Democrat got elected in the US, the world would be better off.

(1,309 posts)for middle class, knowing full well the free college will be paid for with a tax on Wall Street and that Medicare for all will result in much lower premiums than Obama care by cutting out the high cost of the health insurance and pharmaceutical industry. Biggest lie of the night.
Hillary sounds more and more like John Boehner.

(9,314 posts)When Sanders talks about income inequality, he tells the billionaires and the top one percent "You can't have it all."
Bill and Hillary Clinton are not just in the top one percent, they are in the top one-tenth of that one percent (I hope I said that correctly...it's late).
When Clinton speaks on this issue, she refers to that group of people as "they" as if she were not one of them; for example, on taxes: "I will tell them they will have to pay more."

(40,416 posts)Not because I started it, but because it worked out so great, which was astonishing to me.
None of my OPs make any headway but I was apparently the only one amongst all of DU who wanted to host a live thread on the debate. And amazingly I did it without broadband INet or cable from the midst of the Manistee National Forest in rural west Michigan.
The best part of it is how many DUers participated without a single alert and with respectful discussion.
This is how political discussions are conducted. It warms my black heart that if this continues, we may very well beat those evil Republicans and Hillary supporters won't kill Bernie supporters, or vice-versa.
My best to you.

(5,704 posts)and I really want a Dem to win in the US. I may be critisized for not liking Mrs. Clinton and my heart wants Mr. Sanders to win. He knows what it takes to advance America after President Obama's legacy. Donald Trump is festering the fear of the KKK who dislikes anything white! When a bigot is festering bigotry in the US, the KKK will be coming out soon!

(7,820 posts)I didn't see any major game changing moments. The events of the last 24 hours had some potential to shake things up (not sure in which direction) but honestly I doubt the debate did much to shift things.

(5,704 posts)I just liked all three of the Dem candidates, they are so different from the retards on the conservative side.
How on earth a country has two group of people with different values? It is so sad!
ThePhilosopher04
(1,732 posts)if she wins the nomination. She'll have a tough enough time winning as it is, not to mention she's alienated too many people. I'm an Independent Liberal and have never voted for a Republican (and most likely never will). I voted for Jimmy Carter, Walter Mondale, Mike Dukakis, Bill Clinton twice, Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama twice. I will not vote for Hillary Clinton. Period. There are a lot of liberals like me who feel that way.

(5,704 posts)Remember, the members of the Supreme Court will be replaced and if a republican wins, it will be republican controlled.
I am not saying I love Mrs. Clinton but you have to vote for her if she is the nominee. A republican is not an option. Tonight, it seems to me that Mrs. Clinton was very Hawkish towards Libya but she can change!

(1,309 posts)Our country is now controlled by the oligarchy of the rich including the Clintons. They frighten us each election into settling for one of their two candidates . As a result they continue to take more and more from the people. Until progressives stand up and refuse to be manipulated by these chants that we cannot let a republican be elected President, the democratic party will continue to grow more and more like the republican party, always supporting the donor oligarchy over the people.
Your point is that a conservative Supreme Court will be worse is bull the Supreme Court like so many of our legislators already work for the rich oligarchy and certainly will continue to do that if Hillary appoints any of them as she works for the oligarchy herself. Wake up and smell the poison, in our air, our water, our soil, our economic system and our government. Enough is enough. Fight back and support democracy over democrats. Go Bernie!

(1,309 posts)The remarks she made about Bernie's plans for free public college and medicare for all again identify her as someone who cares little about truth and will say anything to get elected. She is fully aware that the college is to be provided by a tax on Wall Street and that removing insurance company profits will decrease the amount Americans will have to spend on health care. Yet she hid this by saying she did not think these plans were affordable and she will not raise taxes on the middle class. She continues to parse her words, and is allowed to avoid really answering the questions. I suspect you admire her because she is a woman who has come so far and achieved so much. Oops, same as gender bias. Why did you bring it up? We Bernie people want to stick to issues, but you just do not seem as Clinton supporters to have a willingness to do that. One wonders why?

(15,369 posts)that would radically change the dynamics of the 2016 election.
Hillary went into the debate as the favorite and emerges as the favorite. In that sense, she did not lose. I am proud of all three Dem candidates and am proud to be a Dem.
I have absolutely NO doubt that the two candidates who do not win the Dem nomination, whoever they may be, will wholeheartedly support the candidate who does.
Any of their supporters who say now that they will absolutely not vote for "_____" in the GE may want to think hard about that. Because if they really do believe in their candidate, they should be willing to do what their candidate wants them to do. That is to support the Dem candidate in the GE.
