"Actually, I'd be more comfortable waiting for Sec. Clinton before continuing the discussion." Not a faux pas on his part -- frankly, he had more than enough on his mind at the time -- but it would have been a (pardon an old-fashioned term) gentlemanly gesture, and one that I think the moderators needed to see.

Dunno about the wardrobe, I guess because women have more leeway in what to wear they also have more pitfalls. For some reason people think it's okay to discuss what women wear more than what men wear.

Following the short break, CNN debate moderator Anderson Cooper said with a note of relief, “All the candidates all are back. Uh, which I’m very happy to see.”

The audience shared a laugh as Anderson continued, “It’s a long story. Let’s continue shall we?” adding, “Secretary Clinton, welcome back.”

Clinton, aware she was getting called out for not returning to the podium as quickly as her male competitors, delivered an off-the-cuff bathroom joke. “Well thank you, it does take me a little longer,” the Democratic frontrunner quipped. “That’s all I can say.”

I'm so obviously not a fan of Sec. Clinton, but even I think that's pedantic and strange.

Maybe less so the wardrobe; sometimes what politicians wear to campaign or debate is a matter of statement, but I don't think the candidates bathroom habits are a matter that would alter my vote.

More so, the conversation isn't even that interesting...it's not like she uses a Go Girl! (a specially-designed funnel that allows women to pee standing up.*) I'm not making fun of Sec. Clinton to say such a thing. (I hate that I have to say that constantly now) Using a FUD (female urination device) might again be something that is potentially a matter of statement...though I would probably think it odd in a turning-off sort of way if a candidate made such a declaration out of the blue. I'd be equally-discomfited if Sanders announced that he pees sitting down or if Martin O'Malley started discussing how having a bidet changed his life. I really just don't want to know about the bathroom habits of other people, my political candidates included.

amount of time alotted. Her staffers timed it before hand. It took one minute and forty five seconds just to walk the distance and one minute forty five seconds to walk back. To make matters worse, the staffer who was supposed to clear the way for her let someone in right before she got there.

But yea, the obvious reason really must be that she was just pulling some sort of "schtick".

ABC wouldn't budge on the schedule. They want everything planned to the last second. The poor time management was ABC's piss poor planning. I mean, god forbid they should have to air an extra 30 seconds of commercials or something.

So yea, maybe Clinton would have been wise to have just brought her own porta potty or just not washed her hands.

I can't believe the amount of ridiculous conspiracy theories that DU has cooked up over this. This place is toxic.

And then talk about the issues around the quote. This is disgusting to me that so many people want to make this an issue. I think Hillary handled the situation extremely well. It's one of the few things she has done that I admire. And I wouldn't mind if she used her position to make this issue a dinner table issue. I have dealt with long lines and the pain of waiting and waiting and waiting. I have been in buildings where the ladies room is much farther from the action than the men's room sometimes even on a different floor. This is complete bullshit and it is often institutional. It is such an ubiquitous part of our culture that some people even think that jokes about it are appropriate.

As for Hillary's outfit I didn't really notice. I had to go and look at video to even know what the hell people were talking about. There was nothing about it that I found remarkable or comment worthy I guess again some people would rather talk about women taking too damn long going to the bathroom and wardrobe than issues like inequality and national security. But, if the kind of people who are damning Hillary for a bathroom break are in on those conversations I have little hope they have anything intelligent to add to the conversation.
