It's pretty common to avoid the appearance of impropriety.

When kids get into a fight at school, both are suspended, even if one kid was only trying to defend himself against a bully. It sucks, but it's a standard policy.

and don't give a damn about football. I'll be watching the debate. Will you? Not everyone is tied up this evening, and most people are off work for the weekend. Saturday evening is a great time to air political debates, I think.

Viewership drops off from debate to debate. Many watch just one. But, there will be a few million watching tonight. Not "thousands."

Almost none of them are on political discussion forums. They want to hear from the candidates. Most do read newspapers or watch TV news, though. They're aware of the data thing. They'll be interested to hear how the candidates handle it.

If you watch, you'll find out, too. It should be fascinating.

He shouldn't have been accessing those files for any reason. His integrity was supposed to override their carelessness, and it didn't. As soon as he any sort of suspicion that confidential information had been compromised, he should have simply reported it to the vendor and left it at that, but since the Sanders campaign dress code seems to include some form of tinfoil, he went ahead and freelanced into that data.

The vendor didn't order him to access those files. That's entirely on him.

I was very active here during the 2008 and 2012 elections.

I don't recall it ever being like this. In 2012, we prided ourselves on the fact we were rational while republicans were living in a bubble and unskewing the polls.

Now DUers are trying to unskew polls and attack Clinton for having her voter data stolen by Bernie's campaign. Somehow, Hillary is to blame for all this.

What the hell happened in a few short years?

I wonder how Skinner feels about this.

Sat Dec 19, 2015, 04:55 PM
Dec 2015

repeatedly, chronically.. leaving ALL candidates' data exposed for extended periods of time.

Then Sanders staffer discovers this, for SECOND time in 2 months, is alarmed and determined
to document exactly how bad the exposure is, so as to put an end to to the vendors incompetent
handling of the firewall.

What was the Sanders campaign supposed to do? They had ALREADY alerted the DNC (who
presumably told the vendor) once in October, and NOTHING was apparently done to correct
the situation 2 months later.

OK, a case can be made that the staffer 'should' have simply repeated himself to the DNC,
and alert them AGAIN, to a situation they had ALREADY been told about, and simply hope for
the best i.e. hope against hope that SANDERS DATA WAS NOT BEING STOLEN AS WELL, by
Clinton while DWS's nephew looked the other way.

Personally I am grateful this whole thing was a 24 hour brouhaha and did not drag out for weeks,
but I find it offensive and disingenuous for Clinton peeps to keep harping on this, since it has
apparently been resolved already. It serves no useful purpose, except to make the Democratic
Party look like idiots, which none of us really wants .. do we?

through a firewall that had come down temporarily due to a glitch in the system. You following me so far?
Well, they got caught and the DNC cut the Bernie Sanders campaign off it's system which was the only leverage it had to make sure the Bernie Sanders campaign didn't retain any information it illegally took from the Hillary campaign and made records of. The DNC simply asked the Bernie Sanders campaign to account for the records they took and to assure them that they didn't retain anything that might give them an unfair advantage due to the theft and they would restore the Bernie Sanders campaign access to their system. The Bernie Sanders campaign finally complied with the DNC's request and then blamed everybody on the planet besides themselves and fundraised off it as well. Then the DNC restored the Bernie Sanders campaigns access and his followers have no idea what happened to this day.
