2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumListen up...This is Democratic Underground
And I shall vote in the primaries as my conscience tells me. That is each of ours personal decision.
But I don't care if it is Bernie or Hillary...Or whatshisname.
Nothing matters other than getting a win.
And the weeds are tall around here with a lot of BS that detracts in whole & adds nothing.
So NOBODY IS GETTING A FUCKING PONY!
Do you HONESTLY think the Republicans are going to let Bernie or Hillary do anything to help America?.
If you do not concentrate on winning the general-and allow yourselves enough angst & animosity - you get people saying they are all or nothing for the candidate they chose.
And that is effin INSANE people...

(4,458 posts)No, one four year term won't wipe out 4 Decades of Poli-Corporate Corruption./.but it's a Turn in the correct direction and the Beginning of a Most important shift. Ultimately it is Still up to the People!
Engage, Vet Candidates Own Votes Thoroughly and Vote en masse'

(6,399 posts)Seriously. One president, even a few more progressives downticket, won't change anything. And certainly not public perception.

(4,458 posts)Gubernatorial elections...POTUS And Congress....all have slipped into corrupt hands...When We VOTE---They Lose.
Start Flipping these positions back to Dems and it Will wake them Up.

(6,399 posts)Because people, as we see here, are focused solely on the presidential side and believing that will fix everything.
The state forums are often dead. Talking of non-presidential candidates and primaries are nearly non-existent.
All politics is local but that filter is thrown out the window here.

(4,458 posts)educating. People are Busy, too tired to catch up-too tired and overwhelmed to care about "fkg politics".
The average person spends roughly 6 minutes a Month watching politics. Add in the Corporate Media Bias into the mix..and voila! You've got good people in the GOP And the Dem Party believing all the BS and Continuing to vote Against their own best interests. That makes the PTB Very pleased with the masses.

(4,458 posts)of the Base that causes people to not want to vote. It worked well over the past several decades and now look where we are.
While we can Still Vote-lets try that for a change.
Of course one election cannot undo the harm they have wrought upon us all...but, it is a start and Why would Anyone allow our country to further devolve by succumbing to the subtle message by these very crooks - once again?
Piss 'em All off and Vote, I say

I'm not voting for "the lesser of two evils" anymore. I'm finished with their dog and pony show.

(21,054 posts)I am done with that crap. IMO, I have as much to fear from a Third Way candidate as from an RW one -- neither of them are liberal and they do not support what I support.

(1,307 posts)But my hope is whoever wins we will all rally behind them because the options are too horrific to let happen. I tell my, son who is a Bernie fan and is hesitant to vote for Hillary, that if nothing else motivates you to vote for the Democratic candidate just think of the Supreme court.
Barack Obama - Sonya Sotomayor and Elean Kegan
George W Bush - John Roberts and Samuel Alito
Bill Clinton - Ruth Bader Ginsburgh and Stephan Bryer
My son is a progressive and I had to remind him that Clinton and Obama both appointed liberal justices. It is the lasting legacy of a president. The court effects every aspect of our lives.
The last 5 presidents back to Regan have all appointed at least 2 justices.
I trust Bernie and Hillary to appoint good liberal judges. Can you imagine the kind of justice any of the other side would appoint?

(46,179 posts)1. I "listened up." I didn't have to, because what you have to say carries no more authority than any other person, but I did, because you seem to need an audience.
2. I know where I am and what Democratic Underground is.
3. I will, as always, vote my conscience in both my primary and the general election. I have never needed anyone's helpful suggestions to do so. That IS my personal decision, as it is for each of us.
4. Fact: we don't all define "win" the same way. Nothing else matters to me but WINNING THE ISSUES. Issues aren't ponies. They are what builds or destroys the nation and the people.
5. I honestly think one candidate has a hell of a lot greater chance of getting things done than the other.
6. Another fact: this is GDP, and it's about primaries, not the general election, which is why I'm concentrated, in here, on the primary races. Quite logical. Of course, I'm also focusing whatever I've got in the way of support on the candidate that I think has the best chance in the GE and as POTUS to get some of the changes our nation desperately needs accomplished, so I'm clearly not ignoring the GE.
7. And finally: I have enough respect for our right to make personal decisions in elections and political identity that I don't feel the need to lecture, patronize, blame, or lose my temper when I disagree with those choices.
