URBANDALE, Iowa (AP) -- Hillary Clinton had just delivered some hard talk on terrorism, recalling tough decisions she made in the White House situation room as secretary of state and lashing out at her Republican rivals for threatening the safety of the American people.
But when an Iowa man broke into her riff with a question about how the country could confront a new wave of fear, her response sounded less like that of a commander in chief than of a soothing self-help guru. "We've got to do everything we can to weed out hate and plant love and kindness," she told a crowd of several hundred.

As Trump rises, Clinton preaches love and kindness
By LISA LERER and KEN THOMAS
...........Today, Clinton rarely ends her remarks without asking her audience to consider adding some "love and kindness" to their daily lives. The line entered her stump speech as an ad-libbed aside during an address to mayors days after the Charleston church shooting in June.
"It may be unusual for a presidential candidate to say we need more love and kindness in this country, but I think that's exactly what we need," she said in New Hampshire on Tuesday.
Her approach - and the implicit contrast with Trump - has attracted some people.
"I had hesitation about what I thought was a kind of hardness in her but she doesn't have that in person," said Terry Matre, a family therapist in West Des Moines. "When you think about what Donald Trump is saying and then you think about her, you're like, my God what took me so long."....................

(15,480 posts)Commentary: Hillary Clintons Shameful Vote on Cluster Bombs
By Paul Rockwell
Tuesday March 18, 2008
In her autobiography, Living History, Senator Hillary Clinton portrays herself as an advocate for children, a defender of women and human rights. In fact, the Clintons have a long history of sacrificing the rights, even the lives of children, for political expediency. It is time to set the record straight.
On September 6, 2006, a Senate billa simple amendment to ban the use of cluster bombs in civilian areaspresented Senator Clinton with a timely opportunity to protect the lives of children throughout the world. The cluster bomb is one of the most hated and heinous weapons in modern war, and its primary victims are children.
Senator Obama voted for the amendment to ban cluster bombs. Senator Clinton, however, voted with the Republicans to kill the humanitarian bill, an amendment in accord with the Geneva Conventions, which already prohibit the use of indiscriminate weapons in populated areas.
All senators are expected to inform themselves on the issues before they cast a vote. The evidence is overwhelming. It is hard to believe that Senator Clinton was unaware of the humanitarian crisis when she voted to continue the use of cluster bombs in cities and populated areas. A U.N. weapons commission called cluster bombs weapons of indiscriminate effect. For years the international press reported the horrific consequences of cluster bombs on civilians. On April 10, 2003, for example, Asia Times described the carnage in Baghdad hospitals: The absolute majority of patients are women and children, victims of shrapnel, and most of all, fragments of cluster bombs. Reporting from a hospital in Hillah, The Mirror, a British newspaper, became graphic: Shrapnel peppered their bodies. Blackened the skin. Smashed heads. Tore limbs. A doctor reports that all the injuries you see were caused by cluster bombs. The majority of the victims were children who died because they were outside.
Even after wars subside, after treaties are signed, after belligerents return home, cluster bombs wreak havoc on civilian life. Up to 20 percent of the bomblets fail to detonate on the first round, only to become landmines that later explode on playgrounds and farmlands. Children are drawn to cluster bomb canisters, the deadly duds that look like beer cans or toys before they explode.

(23,720 posts)Christ the son of God, not Saul the tax collector who saw an opportunity to exploit Christ's followers.
So I guess- if one believes that the words of Paul supersedes the words of Christ, I guess it is ok to lie, cheat and steal as long as one claims to be saved.

(99,710 posts)If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning. 21 It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than to have known it and then to turn their backs on the sacred command that was passed on to them. 22 Of them the proverbs are true: A dog returns to its vomit,[g] and, A sow that is washed returns to her wallowing in the mud.
2 Peter 20-22

(23,720 posts)Paul was a tax collector until he saw an opportunity to exploit Christs followers and claimed to have encountered Jesus on the road to Damascus-
On the day Stephen was martyred, a great persecution broke out against the Christian Church in Jerusalem and all except the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. At that time, Saul began to destroy the Church. Going from house to house , he dragged off Christian men and women and put them in prison. Eventually he obtained letters from the Jewish religious leaders to Jews in Damascus and he went there to bring the Christians (known as followers of the Way at that time) back to Jerusalem to be punished.
About noon, as he came near to Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, 'Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute Me?' Who are you Lord?' He asked. I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting.' Next, Jesus instructed Saul to get up and go into Damascus.
Because of the brilliance of the bright light, Saul had been blinded. For three days he could not see (his companions had to lead him into Damascus by hand.)
While in Damascus, Jesus instructed a devout follower of the Way to pray for Saul in order that his sight be restored. When he did, immediately Saul could see. Saul was told that he would be Jesus' witness to all men of what he had seen and heard. At that time, Saul got up and was baptized a follower of Christ Jesus. Saul was to become known as the apostle to the Gentiles (non-Jews) whereas Peter was called the apostle to the Jews. https://www.blueletterbible.org/study/intros/romans.cfm
It is a myth that Paul and the Apostles of Christ were unanimous in their preaching of Jesus. The Apostles heard that Paul had been preaching a different doctrine in Galatia and Corinthia. Paul was telling them not to follow the law anymore and that they didn't have to eat kosher meat be circumcised (according to Genesis 17::14, the covenant is broken if there is no circumcision). So the Apostles went to Galatia and Corinthia and convinced everyone that Paul was wrong, when Paul heard about this he went back to those cities. Below is Pauls reply.
6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel.
Paul Opposes Peter
11 When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong. 12 Before certain men came from James, he used to eat with the Gentiles. But when they arrived, he began to draw back and separate himself from the Gentiles because he was afraid of those who belonged to the circumcision group
These two verses show that Paul was teaching a different doctrine than Peter and the other disciples. Peter was a disciple of Christ and would have know better than Paul what Jesus had to say.
There were no witnesses to the event of Paul's claimed meeting with Jesus in the desert. So again, I guess it is ok to lie, cheat and steal as long as you believe that what Paul wrote takes precedence over what Jesus Christ himself has been credited with saying as long as one claims to be saved.

(99,710 posts)But the presidential candidate broke with that tradition on Wednesday when she reflected on her religious study and background, during an impromptu conversation with Rev. Frederick Donnie Hunt at Main Street Bakery.
Hunt came to the yellow-walled bakery to enjoy a sweet treat while he studied the Bible, unaware -- he said after -- that a presidential candidate was about to visit. His quiet reflection was abruptly turned upside down when around 20 press and campaign staff rolled into the bakery with Clinton.
"We are heading out of town and we were told to stop by and get some good stuff to take with us," Clinton said as she walked through the door, flanked by dozens of cupcakes and cakes.
After chatting with the bakery's staff and picking out some cupcakes for the road, the presidential candidate sidled up to Hunt and asked him what he was studying.
"Corinthians 13," Hunt said calmly, almost nonplussed by the candidate.
"Oh I know it well," Clinton said.
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud," the passage says.
Clinton told Hunt about her religious history and commended him for his continued study.
"You're doing what is the most important thing to do, it's continuing to study and learn what the scripture says and what it means," she said. "I have a preacher friend who sends me scripture and devotionals, sometimes mini-sermons every day."
