DREAMER Cesar Vargas: Bernie Sanders Champions Immigration Reform, Not Hillary

http://observer.com/2015/12/cesar-vargas-bernie-sanders-champions-immigration-reform-not-hillary/

“I was in Iowa in August before the president took executive action in November,” said Mr. Vargas. “We were there to confront—before I joined the campaign—all of the potential presidential candidates. At one event in Iowa we approached Hillary Clinton, and asked, ‘Secretary Clinton, do you agree with the fact that the president delayed the executive actions the president should be taking?’ She gave us very political talking point answers, ‘Oh we just need to elect more Democrats and yay dreamers.’ It showed us she doesn’t understand our concerns, and that she doesn’t understand we would no longer tolerate partisan games just for the sake of an issue.”

On the same day Mr. Vargas attended another event and posed the same question to Mr. Sanders. Mr. Vargas continued,“ He was very upfront, he said, ‘You know what? I disagree with the president—he should have taken immediate action, and we should protect families right away.’ That was a very clear night-and-day moment where you have a candidate who is just there to score political points and you have another candidate who is sincere and genuine about his commitment to immigration and overall issues in the community.”

Bernie Sanders stands up and speaks plainly about what he believes. Hillary gives talking points that do not make any specific promises to the people she expects to vote for her.

But you go ahead and promote a program that is close to slavery. Most Democrats do, including Hillary. You don't think that the DREAMERS know that Bernie voted no because of the slave like conditions of the Guest Worker Program? Yes they do.

Read the report…

Bernie voted nay. Clearly you support Hillary's position to import slave labor into the United States. Bernie's immigration reform plan rejects slave labor. The DREAMERS know this. I stand with the DREAMERS and Bernie and reject Hillary's support for slave labor.

Let's see how fast you can read this.

On Immigration, Bernie Sanders is Correct
From the Economic Policy Institute

http://www.epi.org/blog/bernie-sanders-is-correct-on-immigration/

So what did Senator Sanders actually say about immigration? In an interview with Sanders, Vox.com editor Ezra Klein brought up the concept of an “open borders” immigration policy. Sanders rejected the notion—open borders and unlimited immigration, of course, being a position that no elected official supports. Sanders went on to point out—a point which he later reiterated to journalist Jose Antonio Vargas and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce—that in some cases the importation of new foreign workers can negatively impact the wages of workers in the United States. Note that Sanders didn’t say immigrants are taking jobs or lowering wages. He was specifically referring to non-immigrant, temporary foreign worker programs, also known as “guestworker” programs, which are full of flaws that employers take advantage of to exploit American and migrant workers alike, and to pit them against each other in the labor market.

The reality is that what Sanders supports on immigration is careful and nuanced, and it’s the correct path forward for American immigration policy. In a nutshell, Sanders is strongly in favor of legalization and citizenship for the current unauthorized immigrant population, which will raise wages and lift labor standards for all workers, and he’s against expanding U.S. temporary foreign worker programs, which allow employers to exploit and underpay so-called guestworkers. Limiting guestworker programs will reduce wage suppression and improve labor standards for U.S. and migrant workers alike.

When it comes to the number one priority for immigration reform—legalizing the unauthorized immigrant population in the United States—Sanders has said time and time again that they should be legalized immediately and put on a path to citizenship, and he’s highlighted their contributions to the American economy. Sanders could not be any clearer about this. He voted for the 2013 comprehensive reform bill that would have legalized most of the unauthorized population, despite his misgivings about the large expansion of high- and low-skilled guestworker programs in the bill, which shows the importance he ascribes to legalization. Sanders understands that having eight million people working in the U.S. labor market without labor and employment rights puts downward pressure on the wages and working conditions of all workers. He has not failed to point this out. There’s no question that Sanders’ desire for legalization of the unauthorized population is consistent with his broader agenda to see wages rise for workers in the United States.

"...you have a candidate who is just there to score political points and you have another candidate who is sincere and genuine about his commitment to immigration and overall issues in the community."

I like how Sanders has taken his message directly to the people. He has shown he has an understanding of the problems plaguing the middle class and below.

By contrast Hillary always seems so calculating to me. How does she intend to get more democrats elected when she doesn't excite liberals and independents don't care for her? She might slide past a terrible Republican field, but those mid-terms would be dreadful under a Clinton presidency.

Look, I know we all want a female president and we'll get one some day, but it's important to have the right one. I'm not convinced that Clinton is. It REALLY rubbed me the wrong way how she paraded a bunch of female senators out there like props the other day. It reminded me of an advertising technique. Basically, "Women support Hillary. You should too if you're a woman." Is it more powerful than singular endorsements spread out over time? Sure. But it's also more calculating and phony in my eyes. I'm glad that Elizabeth Warren decided to stay out of that mess regardless of who she decides to endorse in the future.

she has to promise in order to maintain primary electability.

Count on her to turn every coat in sight as soon as the nomination comes within her grasp. Because 9/11 a gender and something about independents being more important than college kids even though independents prefer Sanders but never mind he's a socialist so Third Way it is.
