"That gulf was starkly illustrated in a report this week from the Institute for Policy Studies, a progressive think tank, showing that just 17 white men and three white women -- see the list below -- own more wealth (savings, stocks, real estate, etc.) than the entire bottom half of the American population, or about 152 million people."

In regards to the concentration of wealth, of the top 20 wealthiest Americans, half that list is comprised of people from 3 families: Koch, Walton and Mars.
Even among income earners the disparity is huge.
According to a Social Security Administration report, released the same day as the now famous HRC Bengazi committee hearing, stated that as of 2014, that 51% of all income earners in America earn less than $30,000 a year. Worse, that 53% of the value of all wages earned in America are earned by .08% of income earners (point zero eight percent)
Let that sink in:
Less than one percent of working Americans gobble up 53% of the total value of all wages earned in America.
That means that 47.2% of the total value of wages earned in America is left to be divided between the remaining 99.02% of the working population.

ISIS is important. The rising racism and xenophobia and outright facism in America is important. Lots of things are important. Few are as important as this.
Why?
This goes to more than having a couple of extra dollars. Many of us are fighting to even matter in this country anymore. In a society where wealth buys you access and makes your voice louder and more important, some have no voice at all and many don't have much left but the illusion.
I don't needs a person that makes millions of dollars talking to Wall st.
I need a person who will walk the city streets of Baltimore and listens.

(30,481 posts)That is simply not honest. At all.

(47,803 posts)Never that there are systemic problems and bad values and domination of oligarchs at the heart of it.
Just some adjustments needed. Like blaming "shadow banking" as if that were more mportant than the formation of immense monopolistic and corrupt banking empires which were enabled by Bill in the 90's.

(47,803 posts)Clinton's fine. Very accomplished. If she were to devote herself to running the Clinton Foundation, or go back to the Senate or pursue something like that, great.
But she should not be president. Her smile is the facade over an elitist oligarchy that is perpetuating the same old same old, while the country steadily goes down the tubes.
You think the trend represented by that chart is healthy for average Americans, or for the preservation of a truly competitive economy and business climate and a basis for broadly based prosperity?
Perhaps you agree with Clinton. No problem. We just have to ask them to behave better, and make a few little adjustments at the fringes.

(47,803 posts)If you refuse to respond to that, you can't blame me for being shallow.
And, I won't criticize your answer eitehr way. Would just appreciate an honest response of whether you think that is a healthy situation or not. And if we should ignore it as if it is not an issue, or just snip a bit around the edges.

(30,481 posts)Things are becoming obvious. Another poster this morning proudly proclaimed Merkel only won because she was a woman. It's Clintons smile.... Yeah, that's it.
