(51,579 posts)And Jimmy Carter is the most egregious example of that. With Dem ideas and accomplishments, every election should be a cake walk for Dems. But it's not. We often loose to hateful, incompetent GOP liars who have better PR. We need a full throated marketing campaign. And unlike the GOP, all we need to do is broadcast the facts.

Carter-hate, like most things in repig Bizarro World, is exactly opposite of what should be happening.

(51,076 posts)lived for the day and did two and three mens work every day so I always got top dollar for my time. I wasn't afraid to stand up to the bosses and if they didn't give me top dollar I would simply walk away and go to the next place across the street or down the road and go to work for them. Never was turned down for a job, during Jimmys term as well as all the others.
This got me more jobs than anything too. Walk in and say to the first person who works there that isn't just one of my future fellow workers, rather to the secretary or bossman up front and say, Someone told me you all wanted some gooood help, emphasis on good. Be surprised at the jobs I got that way. It always worked. I probably own a record on numbers of jobs in one lifetime and a couple of those jobs eat up 25 of my working years.
And I still love President Carter by gawd

(5,444 posts)The only problem was that it took about 4 years (2003). Volcker (a Democrat once reappointed by Reagan) fixed the economy and Reagan got all the credit.

(5,029 posts)They blamed all of the country's problems from Nixon on Carter and we were too naive to fight back. I think we've finally learned from experience and it ain't gonna happen this time.

(13,992 posts)is something of an Urban Legend among conservatives.
Considering the energy shocks (remember the Arab Oil Embargo) with the price of gas quadrupling in the space of about one year, I'd say that Carter managed the economy fairly well -- especially by comparison to what Reagan did afterward. One year of Reagan's deficits was more than all four years of Carter COMBINED.

(2,312 posts)Many Americans are aware that George W. Bush has had the worst job creation record since the government began tracking these figures in 1939. But Bush's colossal failure to manage the economy overshadows a much larger story.
The record shows two unmistakable patterns:
1.Every time a Republican succeeds a Democrat in the White House, the job creation rate plummets.
2.Every time a Democrat succeeds a Republican in the White House, the job growth rate soars. Every time! No exceptions!
Considering the steady growth in population of the United States during this time frame the job creation rate should steadily increase each month (currently it must grow by 128,000 per month to keep up with population growth). This trend only manifests itself when examining Democratic administrations:
Listed below is the average job growth increase for all terms served:
