October Surprise

Of course, there are families who can barely live between paychecks so this post won't apply to them. But, if you have an IRA or 401K or 403B or some other investments, it is likely that you receive quarterly statements. The third quarter ends on September 30 and those statements will hit your mailbox during the first couple of weeks of October. I remember October 2008 when I opened these up and gasped at how much money had disappeared as the Dow hovered around 6500. That was an October surprise that probably woke a lot of people up to how badly Bushco's deregulation had fucked things up. This October should tell quite a different story. Middle class families are going to be pleasantly surprised at how much their financial picture has improved. If it moves a few undecideds into the Obama column, great.
