2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumClinton and Millenials.
My 20 year old daughter watched the entirely of Bill Clinton's barnburner speech last night. She was 2 when he was elected, and 12 when his presidency ended. Sure she knows who he is, but she'd never been exposed to his political and policy genius as she was last night.
She was delighted by his ability to EXPLAIN (as a great teacher is able to do) fairly abstract and complicated policy points in a clear and understandable way to the rest of us.
She was amazed that he went off script - "he's not using the teleprompter!" - and the words just flowed anyway, making more sense of ACA than she had heard from anyone.
She heard the overall message of the speech - one of cooperation and working together vs division. We are better together than every man for himself.
She observed the crowd in that convention hall, and how they hung on every word as we were doing at home. For 48 minutes, Bill kept everyone's attention and when it was over, we wanted MORE.
I am hoping there are plenty of other millenials, like my daughter, who listened to Clinton's speech last night (and had never heard him speak), saw a glimpse of the past and our potential future, and will now become active politically and more importantly, VOTE.

(53,521 posts)Bill Clinton was my formative image of what a President looks like. Smart, popular, and a great diplomat.
