2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie Sanders is the big reason why I support Bernie Sanders
After watching supporters of all candidates be really rude, I've got to say that I am proud of my decision to support the candidate I think will do a better job as POTUS.
If Bernie is nominated:
He's already doing better against Republicans
No rightward turns
Constant infomercials for true, progressive values
Speaking against moneyed power, rather than representing it
Awareness campaign about those who buy politicians
Democratic victory, not only on the top of the ticket but also on the bottom
I have zero desire to base my vote off some grudges against supporters.
Bernie Sanders is why I support Bernie Sanders.

(5,420 posts)on one candidate really has anything to do with the other supporters. I think it is just another attempt to manipulate the Bernie supporters to leave poor Hillary alone and quit telling the truth.

(88 posts)I am so glad he didn't let Hillary ride to the oval office uncontested. I think he messed up some big plans for the DNC and the other power brokers of the party so the awful lies that are being said about him is understandable in the way, that is how they play - hard ball. Without Bernie there would be no chance for more positive change for the people and a lot of chance for more power distributed to the power elite. If Hillary wins, sure, she is better than a republican but settling for something much less is heartbreaking.
I understand how people can get very emotionally involved in personalities in this sort of race. I would probably really like Bernie personally if I knew him, but what I am looking at now are his ideas and his many decades long struggle for fairness and justice. No one comes close to him on his exemplary record.

(88 posts)He knew from the inside information available that this was planned to be a coronation and any competition was to be convinced not to partake at risk of their future careers in politics. He jumped in to mess that mess up good.
I don't think this is conspiracy, I think this is how the Democratic party has worked for too long now. The types like Debbie Wasserman Schultz are not to be trusted.
I still call myself a Democrat but I am not proud of it. Sanders could make me be proud again.

since the 90s every household (excepting, perhaps, the $200,000-a-year-plus "gentry" knows someone
- railroaded by the for-profit jails
- holding off on treatment because $1,000 would break the bank (to the point of waking everyone up with their sobs during an attack)
- unemployed for years on end
- racking up $40K in debt (plus a few 10Ks more in interest) only so they can buy a "ticket" to a $40K job
- a veteran who doesn't want to talk about what they did or what was done to them
Clinton's campaign has thus painted itself into a corner: it's still trying to run a GE campaign against the GOP nominee (as opposed to GOP policies) and to appeal to all sectors and groups at once, but all it can say is "if you want to keep everything going great in your life, don't vote for that pinko, he'll upset the whole system!" they've spent 25 years saying that America's adequately represented by the political stratum and that their interests line up
and on top of it the party's been playing Big Nurse the whole time: "see? your Naderite hankering gave us Bush! now let's get his war and billionaire tax cuts passed in a Dem Senate!" "no, no, you can't have a primary, you'll hurt yourself!" "Lieberman is a better candidate than Lamont--why? because I said so. Go to your room" "you're just not adult enough to understand Obama's clever plans" "no, you can't have any more debates, you'll get a political tummyache"
the impression is they want to roughly wipe our noses, help us put our jammies on, and put us to bed so they can get some goddamned WORK done for once
whenever there's a stinker of a policy or a war in the making the hall monitors are out in force telling us to STFU and that we'll destroy everything America's worked for, and people are pretty tired of a party that does that to its own members--that we're just employees that have to be kept in line

(3,649 posts)Supporters have nothing to do with it. In my opinion, Bernie is the best candidate in the race and that's why he gets my vote.

(88 posts)Policy and past history has to be avoided (unless it's something Bernie Might have said 50 years ago).
They have already called Sanders every dirty thing in the book: racist, sexist, and all that. So they only have the supporters to vent the spleen on. It's really sad, some are getting soooooo upset I imagine them in tears in front of the keyboard, pounding away in frustration.
