Related: About this forumWhat will President Obama's Speech be like, after...
Michelle and Bill Clinton not mention the other powerful speakers (too many to name)?
So far people are saying that he couldn't top Michelle, and now he can't top Bill Clinton.
Really?
Lou Gehrig hit 47 home runs in 1927. The closest to him was Tony Lazzeri at 18. So nobody could hit more home runs than Gehrig.
Oh, wait. Babe Ruth. 60.
Barack Obama is arguably the best orator of our generation. Do you honestly think he's going to give a speech that's less powerful than his wife or predecessor? Ever hear of a tour de force? Obama allowed them to set the bar so high, because he's going to put it in the stratosphere.
I suspect the President's speech will be a top 5'er. The top 5 now, btw, are MLK "I have a dream," JFK inaugural, FDR 1st inaugural, FDR Pearl Harbor, Barbara Jordan 1976 DNC Keynote (According to AmericanRhetoric.com). (#6 is Checkers)
Can he top this? Yes, he can.

(11,833 posts)Michelle was great. Bill was great. Barack will be great.
They have the same powerful idea behind them. That when you give people a chance by making the rules more fair, they will come through and exceed all expectations.

(8,224 posts)Clinton's speech was perfect, when delivered by Clinton. If Barack Obama had delivered the same words, it would not have been as good. Barak Obama's speech will be different, because it has to work with him delivering it. He has a different style, history and character.
