watching Charlie Rose - dude from Politico - "Obama has lost older white men"

in terms of lost their vote. Huh? Are there really that many racists - bigots - or elitists? Where do the pundits come up with this crap (I know, I know...Politico...but then no one challenges these bizarre blanket statements)....

Do the math:

Obama lost the white vote 55-43 in 2008 to McCain. He barely won the male vote 49-48 in 2008. He lost the 60 & older vote 51-47.

http://elections.nytimes.com/2008/results/president/exit-polls.html

So, simple logic would tell you that he lost the older, white male vote in 2008. I'm not saying he doesn't have supporters, but it was probably his weakest group ... especially when you figure most of his support came from the young, minorities and women.

My dad was a 54 year old white Vietnam Veteran and he cast his vote for Obama in 2008...but I'm not disillusioned. I know he was a minority and he knew he was a minority of his demographic.

I think these generalizations are garbage or lazy or projecting - and clearly misleading (and leading) and made for particular purposes.

Obama lost the white vote in 2008. He lost the 60 & older vote in 2008 and he barely, by one point, won the male vote. It doesn't add up to Obama winning that vote.

my father fought for unions and died a Dem, my brother, not so much, he married into a republican family and changed his politics, he has no time to read, the only one in the family who does not read all the time, the rest are all democrats.

My Ex was a Dem when I married him, but over the years got more friends and became a repub and a bitter old guy. Lost his waist and his hair and any common sense he might have been born with.

What do my Brother and Ex have in common? They are both older men with kids ready for college and not enough money to get them there. They are closet racists and both severely ADHD. Neither will ever make enough money to mach the way they live.

and who presented a concept of masculinity that was very hard for those now in their 60s to live up to.

A lot of men in their 60s are veterans from the Viet Nam war, and some of those who are a bit older are veterans from the Korean war. Many are still bitter about that experience. They feel they didn't get the due, the thanks and the credit that WWII vets got. And that is true.

No sooner had these guys finished college or high school and started working but women began to enter the workplace. When that happened, the 60-something generation had to compete for jobs with almost twice as many people as before. And, of course, girls of that generation were taught and rewarded very early on to be obedient and follow directions. So when women got into the workplace, they tended to succeed beyond expectations. That also hurt a lot of men like the ones you describe, hollysmom, with learning disabilities or other problems.

And then on top of that the good manufacturing jobs that required muscle and courage are gone.

Older men are angry because they are having a really tough time.

And Democrats try to appeal to women who want to be independent. So, Democrats have to a certain extent chosen to attract female voters and young voters first and that kind of leaves older men to the Republicans.

that Mitt Romney is a draft dodger who hid out in France?

Do they realize that he protested in FAVOR of the War and then used his wealthy, elite status to get out of the War while many thousands of men of his generation fought and died over there?

ad near the election with the picture of Romney protesting the protestors. It would be a coup to get the rights to Fortunate Son which describes Romney's life.

My brother is 52. Like I aid, my father was a union man. During WWII, he made planes, he had bad but correctable eyesight. My brother decided he like cars better than an education and still works in a factory, no women at work, mostly new immigrants.

My ex is another story, He had no father, raised by a mother and mostly around women. We used to protest Vietnam together, he wanted a modern woman and marriage when we married. Some where along the line he changed into some other kind of person. I saw that our marriage was not going well when he allowed someone to put a (GH) Bush bumper sticker on the back of my jeans. Told me the 60's were over and time to grow up and be a republican and leave my liberal ideas behind. We not too long after.

They are two very different guys that somehow ended in the same place with new families. I still like my brother better, though.

When you look at the demographics, people over 50 tend to vote more conservative than people under 40.

It's even true within the GOP. The older folks tend to be more social conservative while the younger Republicans tend to be more libertarian. This is where the GOP could potentially run into problems in the next decade.

always has been, always will be.

That's not new......it's just easier to notice during this election season.

A panelists of 4 Politico propaganda artists were on CSPAN on what was billed a the "Politico Wrap Up"....
And I had to turn it off, cause I had never heard so much bullshit as I did from that panel....
Almost beat out the Republican Convention in Tampa!

I don't read anything they write, and as far as I"m concerned, they can go fuck themselves....
and each other.
