Related: About this forumI knew it was coming. Bernie supporters don't want a President they want a dictator to force their
revolution on the rest of the country.

(4,822 posts)the fact that Bernie Sanders has no chance at all of instituting the policies he promotes day after day. So, he would have to either be making empty promises that he knows he can not deliver in order to get support, OR he would have to institute them through some other process that bypasses the this congress.
If you think Bernie Sanders can deliver please share with us how that would work in the system we have at this time. Thanks.

(30,481 posts)Truly burns to see things like that. I simply don't get why any of them even mention the word revolution, either. Seems as though they themselves are making fun of Sanders when they do.

(4,377 posts)Given that Sanders 'revolution' is all about advancing progressive ideals, and that the usual Clinton supporter refrain is that its all just 'unicorns and ponies', exactly WHICH parts of the revolution is it that you don't want 'forced' on you?

(11,417 posts)I would not want a Dem to force something on the country anymore than I would want a repub to.
The politics in this country right now may not be what we want but trying to change things by force is not our way.
That is what the repubs try to do when they get in control.
If we can elect a Dem President and Congress and get a liberal Supreme Court we can make the needed changes. That is what we should be working toward.
On edit:
The revolution seems more like an ideology to me. The reverse of the right's ideology maybe but still an ideology.
Ideology is followed no matter what the outcome is. It is thought that following the ideology will get the desired outcome but that is not necessarily true.
The repub ideology is beginning to backfire on them.

(45,319 posts)Are you saying here and now that you object to him doing so out of a principled opposition to such methods? Seems to me that you are saying that.

(11,417 posts)The thread I was referring to said to bypass the rest government and run everything with executive orders.
We may not like what they stand for but our opposition has a right to representation
We have a system of checks and balances when things run right.
Executive orders can be used for good and bad.
FDR tried to do a lot with executive orders but failed on some of them.

(45,319 posts)You are actually saying this: "I would not want a Dem to force something on the country anymore than I would want a repub to."
Obama is likely to reach as far as he can because that is the only right thing to do. So he and his action will sort of need our full support.

There would be a backlash like the one that gave us Reagan

(7,804 posts)Maybe you just don't understand how democracy works. You do understand that if Sanders really DID get into the White House it would be because people WANT his ideas? How is that "forcing" anything on anyone?
Oh, I give up...

(45,319 posts)"Almost three years ago, President Obama asked Congress to change the law to require background checks for weapons sold at gun shows, but a bill to do so died in the Senate dashing administration hopes for legislative action to address the loophole.
Efforts to use Obama's executive powers to address the issue took on added urgency in October, when a shooter at a community college in Oregon killed nine people, then shot himself."

Now of course there will be those who say Obama is being a dictator and forcing his will on the people, that is what the right wing has said about him constantly.
It is amazing to me that on a day when our President is poised to take controversial executive action on gun control you would see fit to equate such executive orders as the acts of a petty dictator ignoring the will of the masses. It's what'd I call a hell of a shortsighted line of rhetoric for a Democrat to employ this week.

(27,310 posts)Proposal seriously (rather than the stupid ass post that it is), it would have over 100 recs by now. FYI, a few Hillary supporters called killer mike some outrageously nasty names on Twitter. Given that, are you wiling to characterize all Hillary supporters as ignorant racists based on a Handful of people?

I am not nervous about anything.

I'm not finding anything on the internet saying that a President Sanders would try and use executive orders instead of trying to get legislation passed.
Or did Sen. Sanders say something in favor of dictatorships somewhere?
Or has some DU Sander's supporter written something about wanting a dictator?

So is he also a dictator wanting to force his revolution on the rest of the country or was that just more hyperbole?
