Related: About this forum5 vintage photos that tell the story of how Bill and Hillary Clinton fell in love
Hillary Rodham and Bill Clinton met at Yale Law Schooland she made the first move.I was studying in the library, and Bill was standing out in the hall talking to another student . I noticed that he kept looking over at me. He had been doing a lot of that. So I stood up from the desk, walked over to him and said, If youre going to keep looking at me, and Im going to keep looking back, we might as well be introduced. Im Hillary Rodham. That was it.
They even joined the mock trial team together.

Recognize that guy in the back row?
After graduation, Hillary moved to Washington, D.C. Bill moved back home to Arkansas. They visited each other often.
Hillary and Bill playing volleyball in the summer of 1975.
Bill had to ask Hillary to marry him three times before she said yes.
I actually turned him down twice when he asked me to marry him. He asked me in England on a trip after law school graduation. I said, you know, I can't say yes. I feel too badly. And then about a year later he asked me again, and I said no. He said I'm not asking you again until you're ready to say yes.
(Spoiler alert: She eventually did.)
They got married in their living room in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
We were married in the living room on October 11, 1975, by the Reverend Vic Nixon. I wore a lace-and-muslin Victorian dress I had found shopping with my mother the night before. When I walked into the room on my fathers arm, and the minister said, Who will give away this woman? We all looked at my father expectantly. But he didnt let go. Finally, Rev. Nixon said, You can step back now, Mr. Rodham.'"
We started a conversation on our first date in the Spring of 1971, and more than thirty years later, hes still the best company I know.

(57,349 posts)So in your opinion a man who had a child out of wedlock is somehow less moral than one who cheats on his wife?
I'll take the guy who enjoyed sex without the benefit of marriage over the serial philanderer any day.
And if Bill is brought into this forum he's fair game.
I normally stay out of these threads and I don't care about Bill's affairs but I'm sick of the right wing talking point "illegitimate children" being dragged in here as if those kids are something their parents should be ashamed of.
People who use terms like that sound like uptight fundamentalist nut jobs.

(7,018 posts)centuries for those people born of parents who weren't married. These children had done
nothing wrong. They were just born, like anyone else. An example: They were not
allowed to enter the priesthood, and were treated as 2nd-class citizens in every way
throughout their lifetimes. Gentle, loving, forgiving Churches. Or were they more
self-righteous, arrogant and condemning Churches?
Thespian2
(2,741 posts)They do tend to be self-righteous, arrogant and condemning...while they have committed horrendous atrocities throughout history...

how long it took them to make the change ..... it's something positive.

(12,504 posts)I'd also add that the essays extolling women fantasizing about gang rape is an abuse of women. I wonder where Bernie got the idea about such a thing? And gives others license to abuse women because, saint Bernie said that really really want it.
Can't tell you how I'll that essay made me feel.

(57,349 posts)This one is for liberals and we don't shame kids whose parents weren't married.
How are you going to refer to them next, as 'bastards'?
That'll really score some points for your side, eh? That'll teach those Bernie supporters a lesson!
Because that's what's really important, after all, isn't it?
Getting someone's goat, even if it means smearing innocent children. Hilarious.
Just when I think the bar can't go any lower you show up to prove me wrong.
Way to go.

(12,504 posts)I don't take offense or manufacture silly misplaced outrage at the term. It's just a word.
I don't use basterd because it's used more frequently as an insult rather than illegitimate, or born out of wedlock.
It's an old, fashioned term from an almost bygone era

Cal33
(7,018 posts)child was born of another woman, 3 years after his divorce from his first wife, and long before
he married the second time. There was no infidelity involved.
<< In 1964, Sanders graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. He married Deborah Shiling and they bought a summer home in Vermont; they had no children and divorced in 1966. Over the next few years, he took various jobs in New York and Vermont and spent several months on an Israeli kibbutz.[33][41] His son, Levi Sanders, was born in 1969 to Susan Campbell Mott. In 1988 Sanders married Jane (O'Meara) Driscoll, a former president of Burlington College, in Burlington, Vermont.[42] With her he has three stepchildren, whom he considers his own.[33][43] >>

Bill and Hillary Clinton got into Law School on sheer brains and determination, as did Barack and Michelle Obama. None of them were "legacy students" or trust fund babies.
Nobody handed them anything on any silver platter. They all grew up to be Democrats. Wherefore all the nasty resentment at their hard earned success in life?
SmittynMo
(3,544 posts)But you missed the point. Putting a 1%er in control is a huge mistake. It's been proven.
The Clintons are a true American success story, as are the Obamas.

(893 posts)Unless this is just a PR campaign to try to make Hillary more likable, which is one of her major issues with many Americans. I disagree with anyone who dismisses her because she is a woman just like I disagree with those who claim that is a professional qualification to be president - that line of reasoning puts her in the same class as Palin and Fiorina, both of which she is far better than.
I may very well support Hillary if she wins the nomination, but Bernie Sanders is the one who I will fight for during the primaries. And nothing like this will change that, because it is based on policies rather than gender or some other irrelevant thing like how likable she is.

(1,309 posts)Talk about a cult of irrelevance?
The establishment controlled by the same donors who contribute to both Hillary, a number of other democrats, and the republican legislators, have grabbed the people and squeezed them in any variety of ways milking their lifeblood to support the greatest wealth redistribution in history. It is time to give up that simple desire wouldn't it be nice if we elected an African American, or it's successor it is about time we elect a woman. Sure it would but we need someone who is on the side of the people, and so far true or not, if one observes Hillary's actions, $12 per hour rather than $15 living wage, refusal to say she favors expanding social security, unwillingness to support Glass - Steagall banking regulation, and being unwilling to say we must get rid of Citizens United and big ,money in politics, and lastly her opposition to Medicare for All, sure tends to make her look like a negotiator for her large donors rather than someone who would serve the people. The lastI saw, the President is like other government employees supposed to serve the people, and while I am no great Biblical scholar I do know that the Bible says you cannot serve two masters and I am convinced Hillary is already sserving the very rich and ever more blatantly as polls show she is leading by a lot.
So yes, I too think Bill and Hillary made a nice looking couple but I do not vote on that basis. Do You?
