Related: About this forumHillary Clinton ate MEXICAN FOOD in East Los Angeles
with LA Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa. I'm not sure what that means, but that's what she did.
Now, King Taco isn't my favorite in East L.A., since I prefer taco truck tacos, but there it is.

(42 posts)I want reports of her trying legal edibles and Illegal Pete's famous burritos.
Thank you.

(15,384 posts)Earlier this year, she was photographed in a Chipotle getting a burrito, and the GOP (really) said that she was pandering to Hispanic/Latino voters.

(146,317 posts)On Tuesday afternoon, Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton hit Old Redford neighborhood restaurant Sweet Potato Sensations for lunch. In true soul food fashion, the former Secretary of State ordered black-eyed pea and collard green soup, sweet potato cobbler, and sweet potato ice cream.
I'm not sure what that means, either, except that candidates often eat local food, wherever they may be.

(146,317 posts)My wife and I are going to an Ethiopian restaurant this weekend. I must be looking for votes from that demographic, I guess.
The Minneapolis St. Paul metro area has so many wonderful ethnic restaurants. You could just about eat at a different one every day of the year, if you could afford to.
There's a Hmong restaurant nearby that is a favorite of ours. Lots of cross-cultural options on the menu.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)I love all ethnic cuisine. I will try anything, but my staples are Mexican, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and American cuisine (southern cuisine). Peruvian food is very good, too, and so is Brazilian (unfortunately, I'm a meat-eater so Brazilian cuisine is right up my alley).
Hubby prefers American and Mexican, so when we go out, this is what we go for. Son and I love Vietnamese and Chinese. Daughter and I enjoy Indonesian and Thai - and sushi.
But I have a special love for tender barbecue ribs with the house rice from "Country Chicken and Ribs" in California. BEST beef barbecue ribs I've ever had! They give big portions with a zesty/sweet barbecue sauce that keeps people coming back for more - even have them drive up from Orange County for their guilty pleasure!

(146,317 posts)Guinea Pig is really tasty.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)Not guinea pig! Cuy. They're huge cavies used for consumption. Guinea Pigs are my favorite pets. Had them since I was six years old. I currently only have one Peruvian longhair (I use to have twenty) originally named Panda, but his name varies from Panda to Guinea Wig, to PigPig, to Dude (son calls him Dude, and gives him a Keanu Reeves surfer-dude's voice - lol).
He looks similar to this one:
I just recently learned that Cuys have a more aggressive temperament than guinea pigs. You can't really keep one as a pet since they're not really safe for children due to their size (weighing in at 4-8 pounds while a guinea pig rarely goes above 2 pounds) and nature (untamable and wild).
Here's an image to gauge the size of a Cuy named Titan:
Here's an image that shows the difference between a Cuy and a full-grown guinea pig (the smaller one):

I guess we've all done that on occasion. Now, if she had suffered an episode of acute gastrointestinal distress after dining, that would be worth mentioning. Or perhaps, if she didn't suffer one, depending on the restaurant.
I have to say I'm impressed with your preference for fine mobile Mexican food.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Every candidate eats regional and ethnic food. Followed by a couple of antacids, in most cases, I'm sure.
As for taco truck dining, my favorites are tacos de lengua and de cabeza.

(39,961 posts)When it comes to tacos and burritos, yummy refried beans, and chimichangas, you will never hear me complaining.
I wholeheartedly support her decision to eat any and all Mexican food. There is a running joke that one day I will turn into a taco.
And it's Tuesday.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)and again since I'm suffering chronic gastritis (thanks to my overuse of Aleve - ugh!). I usually have to take a milky antacid a few hours afterward, but chimichangas are so worth it.
For regular burritos, one can't go wrong with Alberto's. Their flour tortillas are the best I've ever tasted.
Aerows

(11,945 posts)But creating an OP in the unusual style (unexpected caps) of a DUer who has been an object of ridicule by some for that very trait is indeed mocking. Why deny it?
I think your best bet is to pretend it's all in good, affectionate fun and you hadn't meant to insult or embarrass anyone. That might fly, if you put some effort into it.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Of course this thread is a take-off on that other one. Pointing out that some candidate ate some ethnic cuisine on the campaign trail is like pointing out that a candidate shook hands with someone. Putting the type of cuisine in ALL CAPS is really funny, I think. Your mileage may differ, of course.
Just consider it homage to the original post, and you'll have the idea.

(146,317 posts)Sometimes I make it myself, but sometimes we go out. Lots of outstanding options here. One of my favorites is El Burrito Mercado in St. Paul. Central Mexican cuisine is its focus. Where I grew up in California, most of the restaurants were Western Mexico and Baja California centered. I've been eating Mexican food all my life, and my mother makes the best tamales ever. She learned from her neighbors in the small Arizona mining town where she grew up.
I'm a fair hand at making soul food, too. My mother's parents were southerners, so she made the full range of southern food, too. I learned to cook sitting in the kitchen watching her. I draw the line at chitlins, though. They're offal.
mmonk
(52,589 posts)The town where I grew up has a lot of Mexican food markets. We have it more than once a week usually. My favorite is a local restaurant called Mariachi del Plaza that has a Cantina and Mariachi bands every weekend. We probably have a lot in common.
MineralMan
(146,317 posts)The town I grew up in in California had a Hispanic population of at least 50%. I spent a lot of time in my friends' houses and always ended up getting fed. I learned Spanish by osmosis, really.
When my wife and I moved to the Twin Cities, I was worried about not being able to find good Mexican food. Then, I discovered that St. Paul has its own Cesar Chavez Blvd, with plentiful restaurants and bodegas. A wonderful discovery. It turns out that there was an immigration boom in Minnesota from Mexico back in the 1940s.
Cool frijoles.

MineralMan
(146,317 posts)Recently, a very, very good taco truck has started parking every day near where I live in St. Paul, MN. I find myself often needing to get out of the house around lunchtime these days. "Honey...I'm going up to pick something up at the market."
