Santorum To Gay Man: You Don’t Deserve ‘Privilege’ Of Marriage Because Gay Unions Don’t

‘Benefit Society’

Rick Santorum told a gay man in Fulton, Missouri Friday afternoon that he didn’t deserve the “privilege” of marriage because his same-sex relationship does not “benefit” society in the same way that opposite-sex marriage does. Marriage, Santorum explained is an “intrinsic good” in which gay and lesbian people should not be allowed to partake in:

SANTORUM: You’re not entitled “to special treatment under the law…[Marriage is] not a right, it’s something that has existed since the beginning of human history as an institution where men and women come together for the purposes of forming a natural relationship as God made it to be. And for the purposes of having children and continuing that civilization. It is an intrinsic good…And as a result of that, we extend a privilege. We extend certain privileges to people who do that because we want to encourage that behavior. [...]

Two people who may like each other or may love each other who are same-sex, is that a special relationship? Yes it is, but it is not the same relationship that benefits society like a marriage between a man and a woman.

His remarks are so idiotic, they're ludicrous.

There comes a point in time when you realize that people who explosively spout that kind of hateful shit are just not playing with a full deck, that they are stupid nitwits who do not live in the real world, and the only thing to do is point at them and laugh and mock them for the buffoons that they are.

As for benefiting society, all I can tell you is this--I've gotten more help from my gay neighbors (thanks for the jump start last month) than I have EVER gotten from Rick Dumbfuck Santorum.

I'd say the one who is a waste of oxygen is the moronic bigot making the comment, not the people he's trying and failing to trash.

what?

We shouldn't have married? We're not intrinstically good? We impede the advancement of civilization?

When What'shisname and I applied for our marriage licence, we were asked two questions. (1) Were we of the age of consent, (2) Were either of us legally married to anyone. We were not asked about our ability or desire to reproduce. We were not required to continue civilization nor required to have any member of any clergy perform the wedding ceremony. I should think a same-sex couple could also answer those two questions the same way we did -- yes and no.

In September we'll be married 30 years which I observe is a lot longer than a lot of people managed who were married by the clergy and reproduced like bunnies.

This member of an opposite sex marriage sans spawn says you're talking out your foamy ass, Ricky.

Fortunately, there is nothing less possible to a stop than an idea whose time has come. It's only a matter of time until we rid ourselves of the Roberts court and we get the civil right to marry extended to all consenting adults.

Stable couples and families always benefit society no matter what the packaging or the plumbing of the partners might be. Marriage elevates a life partner to the status of first degree relative and that confers human rights that can't be obtained any other way.

Fortunately, since gay marriage has been recognized in several states for some time now and the sky has not fallen and Armageddon has not occurred, more and more people are abandoning Santorum and the god he created in his own image and favoring the right thing to do, which is extending civil rights to all of us.

those who are sterile/infertile? They obviously cannot reproduce on their own, and in Mr. Frothy Mix's loony world, they would be denied access to technological marvels that could enable them to have children by other means. Guess he'd throw all those incapable of self-replication under the bus as well.

Not only to same sex couples, also to opposite sex couples who want children, but can't have them. Implying that their marriages are somehow something less than those that do have them.

With procreation? Ugg. I am a straight married woman with two children but how am I benefiting society in a way a gay couple would not? I just want to punch that man sometimes. Luckily, his poll #'s are so low he is almost meaningless. Almost.
