U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders spoke about criminal justice reform at a forum sponsored by BET. Here, Sanders takes a selfie with supporters after a campaign rally at the South Carolina Democratic Party headquarters in Columbia, South Carolina, Nov. 21, 2015
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders called for criminal justice reform and discussed the Black Lives Matter movement Saturday at the BET's Presidential Justice Forum. Sanders opened his speech at the bipartisan event by listing off what he called "horrible facts."
"Im going to start with an issue that is on everyones mind, the continuing struggle for racial justice in America," Sanders said, reported Fusion. Sanders then listed off a number of statistics, such as black people being imprisoned at six times the rate of white people and one out of 15 African-American men being incarcerated.
"These are shocking statistics to say the least," Sanders said. "But before we even address those, we have to deal with the most urgent and obvious issue that needs to be addressed head on. And that is the killing of African-Americans by police or deaths while in custody."

they will, even if they don't want him. I wonder how many voters threw their Republican ballots away.

As she could not bother to attend. Must have been a fundraiser that was much more important.

(5,208 posts)5. In selling Bill's crime bill, Hillary
Spread the myth of the super-predator. She said that there were gang kids that were super-predators that had no conscious and no empathy. As if they were monsters. I find that unforgivable. Sounds like she was the one without empathy.

I wish that he would mention the down ticket though. That's the only way we will be able to accomplish our goals, we have to build support in the congress.
