Hillary Clinton to Propose Tax Credit for Caregivers

It's yet another middle-class tax cut from Clinton

Hillary Clinton will propose a new tax credit for caregivers, adding to a series of middle-class tax cuts the Democratic frontrunner has announced this campaign.

The tax credit proposal, which Clinton will announce on Sunday afternoon in Clinton, IA, would give families up to $6,000 in caregiving costs for their elderly family members, according to a preview of the plan provided by an aide.

If she isn't careful she won't be able to pay for all the wars she's jonesing for.

She sounds an awful lot like the republicans, maybe she ought to just come out of the closet. She'd be a cinch to get the republican nomination.

I was a caregiver for my mom from the time she became a below the knee amputee at the age of seventy eight until she died in my arms when she was ninety...

Rather than pay for a caregiver who would have earned more than I could make by going on a sales call for my small business I would take my mom with me... I jokingly would tell my clients and prospective clients she was my associate.

Caregiving is a noble calling. They could use a hand.

There are numerous studies that document the sacrifices they make from reduction in earnings to sacrificing their own health.

BTW, Repubs oppose most targeted tax credits/cuts because they believe it is social engineering.

I hope the other candidates follow suit. Caregivers often get overlooked and the work they do is vital.

Offering a pittance, appealing to individual self-interest, rather than appealing to an ethic of
"being in this together". It's not a horrible idea by any means, but it's tokenism imho.
Probably "good politics" and will help some people who could use it.

By contrast Bernie is looking at leveling the whole playing field, starting by making the top 5-6%
pay WAY more in taxes, like they used to under Presidents Rosevelt, Isenhouwer and Kennedy;
and closing the gaping tax loop-holes of giant corporations, taxing Wall St. transactions, etc.

And along with this ^ he proposes a very modest increase on some upper-middle-income folks,
people who can actually AFFORD such an increase, and which will still directly benefit these same
folks -- along with lower income folks -- with free higher education, free health care, and a $15
minimum wage.

Offering these piecemeal tax credits is mere tokenism to pander to people's "me first" instincts,
and to distract from Bernie's wholistic "we're all in this together" approach to tax reform.

CLINTON, Iowa (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton will on Sunday propose a tax credit offsetting up to $6,000 in costs associated with caring for elderly and disabled family members, and allowing caregivers to accrue Social Security retirement benefits for such work.

The caregiving credit, which would have a maximum value of $1,200 for qualifying families, will be the latest in a “range of tax cuts aimed a boosting the take-home pay for middle-class families” that Clinton will announce over the coming weeks, according to a campaign aide.

Also is it a refundable or nonrefundable tax credit?

Since the people attacking proposals from Sanders keep insisting they can't be paid for, surely Clinton details exactly where the money for this comes from, right?

Yet it hasn't quite made it into any of the articles I've seen.
