The Democratic Primary Race Is Generating a Lot of Disputes on DU.

That's OK, for sure, since people tend to have strong opinions about candidates. However, far too many DUers are racking up hidden posts and some have even been put on time-outs for having too many of those. That's unfortunate, since their voices are silenced while they are in that state.

This has happened to supporters of each of the candidates, so it doesn't seem to be anything connected with who one supports. I hate to see people get time-outs. I often recognize their names as people who post frequently, and I want to hear what they have to say.

Here are some hints:

1. Don't seriously personally attack someone with whom you disagree.
2. Don't call the candidate you don't support vile names.
3. Don't go hunting for things someone said years ago and accuse that person of terminal insincerity.
4. Even if you'd rather not, just be polite, even if you do it in an obvious formal way.
5. If you can't follow any of those hints, skip posting right away. Wait a while and still don't post something that might be hidden.

Other DUers will alert on the first four things, and juries may hide your post. Some DUers, like myself, don't alert on replies to their posts, as a matter of personal ethics. But many DUers will alert on those four items listed above. Why take the risk of not being able to post? It's easy to avoid hidden posts.

Your posts don't get hidden. You know how to post within the boundaries of this website's community standards. I wasn't really aiming my hints at you.

And whether telling other adults how to post over and over again is seemly for anyone other than the admins.

My post was not about me.

I don't think that people who get hidden get hidden because they don't understand the boundaries. I think they get hidden either because they WANT to be on the edge or because it's a bs jury result--and I've seen so many of those. Ghandi could not have avoided some of those hides.

And, after one thread after another like this, the nastiness only has escalated.

that posts don't get hidden, of course. That's especially true if you have very strong opinions. I guess I'm just speaking in general terms. I would not have voted to hide on any of those. Not every DUer looks at jury duty the same way, sadly.

titles that don't match body of the quoted text?

It might also be the making shit up out of thin air as well perhaps?

Just some thoughts.

Look on the bright side. By the end of February, Hillary will have the nomination sewed up and all will be well.

I wasn't aware of the depth of some of the personal disagreements until the threads in GD overnight. Kind of scary actually. Your advice is well taken though. If one follows your advice then the hides become much less likely. Thanks.
