In a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations in New York, the former secretary of state offered her most expansive view to date on how to counter a growing militancy that launched attacks in Paris last Friday in which 129 people died.
She said it is time for a "new phase" in the fight against Islamic State: A more effective U.S.-led air campaign that will "have to be combined with ground forces actually taking back more territory."
The effort will require an "intelligence surge," she said, involving more Arabic speakers with expertise in the area and technical assets. There also should be no-fly zones over Syria and safe zones for people fleeing the violence, she added.

Great! More "have to be combined with ground forces actually taking back more territory." and an "intelligence surge".
Let's exploit fear to get the nomination. It's SO DEMOCRATC PARTY!
BTW.... she's NOT the "Democratic presidential candidate". We haven't had the primaries yet.
For the 1st time, I don't know if I can vote for her in the general. What a friggin' LOUSY choice to have to make. I can't vote for a Republican war hawk, but I'm suppose to vote for a Democratic war hawk???
I'm embarrassed to be an American.

(94,604 posts)Nobody said she was THE Democratic presidential candidate; she is A Democratic presidential candidate, and thus the designation is appropriate.
As for your concerns about her comments, perhaps Senator Sanders can tell us what he will do going forward? Saying "I told you so" won't address any of our current problems.

What's your issue?
The Democratic presidential candidate has long been the only member of Congress even remotely self-associated with the word "socialist." But Sanders' bet is that things have changed -- and the label doesn't carry the baggage it once did.

Yes... that is why I posted this. Forget the rest of the article. This is the real problem.
Technically, nobody is a "presidential candidate" yet. Not even Sanders. But we know how reporting in this country sucketh. Clinton was supposed to just skate on onto that position la-dee-da, and so I hate it when they push those buttons.

(7,143 posts)There's plenty wrong with modern journalism, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with this.
Looks like some buttons press themselves.

(17,505 posts)I repeat.
"Technically, nobody is a "presidential candidate" yet. Not even Sanders. But we know how reporting in this country sucketh. Clinton was supposed to just skate on onto that position la-dee-da, and so I hate it when they push those buttons."
And please to continue to ignore her Hawkish status.

(7,143 posts)"Technically" and linguistically, they are all Presidential candidates.
That you've emotionally reacted to the proper, conventional use of a term is curious and informative.

(9,148 posts)Bush !!!, Hillary is certainly not. What do you suggest the best plan is to deal with ISIS & Terrorism globally?
She is quite far from a war hawk. What does Bernie Sanders propose? Hmm? I'll listen.
AlbertCat
(17,505 posts)I doubt it. Since you're asking me and not waiting for him to respond.
This is one subject it might take some time to figure out instead of the knee jerk Conservative "go have a war" solution.

(9,148 posts)Bernie has no clue what foreign policy is about. Tucked away in his cozy NE /DC world for 25 yrs.
He is as ready to be Commander in Chief as you or I .

He responded yesterday...it's on CBS news' web site.
See if you can get the Hillary Haze out of your eyes for just a few minutes and look before you go on about... something or other nonsense.

Hiring more Arab speakers for Intelligence, what's wrong with all the Arab speaking ME countries providing Intelligence and ground troops?
How much will it cost?
Al Queda, now Isis, who will be next with all these pissed off refugees.
All this military action again, tell me how peace evolves from all this killing

(35,015 posts)The GOP and others are doing everything they can to terrify us - I heard on CNN this morning that the person elected as president will be the one people feel will keep us safe.
Since the GOP and the media are wanting overwhelming warfare, Clinton is moving in that direction. If there's an attack here, it's probably a pretty good bet that the GOPer will win the election because the American people as a collective, are sheeple.
I have been incredibly critical of Hillary but I understand how nuanced all of this is.
If it comes down to Hillary vs. GOP, she can only win if she sounds like them.
THAT is the state of our national politics. There aren't enough of us who aren't afraid and want peace to be the majority. We'll end up voting for her anyway though, because the alternative is worse.
I am still betting on Bernie and the kids, but who knows what's going to happen with all this terrorism and war shit.

These colors don't run.
You are agreeing that we need more boots on the ground and the attending danger that puts our troops in , when are you going to enlist??/

(4,205 posts)I also served my time but damn sure am not stupid enough to do so again... I lost my father in WWII I lost many friends in nam, and have a grandson over there right now who I worry about until he comes home in one piece.I have seen the caskets return from the ME in favor of the idiot president we had. I am not anything at all a "peacenik" type but the idiocy of attempting to force our democratic beliefs on people who have no interest in anything but just to get on with their lives... the entire fiasco is best referred to in relation to the crusades..

(49,392 posts)"Regime Change" by any stretch. The loonies of ISIS want to change the rest of the world to their way of "thinking". They are ready to die while they attempt kill every living soul on earth until their goal is accomplished.
They need to be squashed immediately.
But the Saudis and Egyptions and Iranis are already there and have the manpower to do the job and could do it pretty damn fast if they would get off their asses get to it.There is no reason on earth to send our troops except an ego thing....
