2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumBernie appears to be having major issues attracting Hispanic voters (Hillary leads 84% to 8%)
We know all about Bernie's problem getting African American support, but now it appears Bernie is having even more trouble attracting Hispanic support:
Clinton's leading within every demographic group on the Democratic side but it's closer with some segments of the electorate than others. She leads Sanders just 50/36 with white voters, but is up 70/13 with African Americans and 84/8 with Hispanics.

Also, PPP was the most accurate pollster during the last presidential election cycle.

I expect Sanders support to slightly grow with the AA community. If anything I think he will go down from the 8% as the Latino/Hispanic community learns more about him.

Learning that doesn't exactly endear him to the Latin population.

(2,450 posts)The people who know who Bernie is are people who follow politics closely, the vast majority of the country is not engaged in the elections yet. In time, they will be.
Hillary has been (in)famous for decades.
I have complete confidence that once people get to know Bernie, they will love him.
Hillary is familiar to people, not necessarily in a comforting way either.
Basically, this poll is meaningless to me because the familiar holds more weight with the dis/un engaged than potential does.

How come people still don't know him?

(30,250 posts)Bill went with her, but it was her cause not his. Hispanics have been big supporters of the Clintons for decades. I don't see that changing anytime soon. In 2008 they only went to Obama in large numbers when he became the nominee.
Sanders does poorly with AA too, the majority support Hillary (70% to Sander's 13%).
Added to Hillary having the support of 69& of Democratic women, I think that the chances of Sanders winning the nomination are slim.

One needs to be careful about making inferences from small sub samples with consequent large margins of error.
