The 5 Biggest Lies In Mitt Romney’s RNC Acceptance Speech

Mitt Romney delivered an acceptance speech that stretched, massaged, distorted, and flat out violated the truth. Here are the five biggest lies uttered by Romney in Tampa.

1). Mitt Romney Goes Birther

What Romney Said, “Tonight that American flag is still there on the moon. And I don’t doubt for a second that Neil Armstrong’s spirit is still with us: that unique blend of optimism, humility and the utter confidence that when the world needs someone to do the really big stuff, you need an American.”

The Truth: Ah yes, what would a gathering of more than four Republicans be if somebody didn’t suggest in the most sly way that Obama is not American. Romney’s statement can also be viewed as when you need really big stuff done, you need a white man. It was subtle, but it was there. Romney was doing his best Ronald Reagan all-American impression. If Romney is Captain America, then what does that make Barack Obama?

2). Romney Says he Won’t Raise Taxes on the Middle Class

What Romney Said, “Unlike President Obama, I won’t raise taxes on the middle class of America.”

The Truth: Romney’s tax plan is classic trickle down economics. Romney’s tax plan lowers on the top 2% of earners and raises taxes on everyone else. According to the Tax Policy Center, taxes on the middle class would go up by about $2,000 to pay for Romney’s tax cut for the wealthy.

What a bizarre night! Romney put 2 sentences together but that's about it-hardly a soaring presidential speech by any means and some very unpresidential moments-the birther remark, mocking climate change, the medicare lie that is so easily disproven, but repeated in a presidential nomination speech was unfortunate, the jobs lie, the crowd not clapping when he said he'd care for the needy (haha right) and then ending on the war mongering? Taking a shot at Russia? Dangerous and unnecessary. Russia is not a concern. No-one supports another war. He seemed unhinged. A speech that looked backward not forward and won't change anyone's mind on Romney and his lack of plan. Add in Clint Eastwood and it was a bizarre night indeed. Eastwood totally stepped on the Rubio speech-they can't be happy about that. I honestly don't think it was a good night for them.

I'm really stunned he went Birther-they will deny it-but there's no denying it.

Used to be that the media kind of didn't even mention whether he was telling the truth, but now they are acknowledging that there might be "problems" or "some might say he was exaggerating"--- but they don't actually seem to CARE.

IMO, you can't be effective if you lie from start to finish, but apparently we are the only ones who think so. They are still talking about a close election and how well these guys do in their speeches, showing clips about how great they say they'll do.

Seems a lot of people don't care if anyone lies anymore, and that is extremely disturbing to me.

It's that kind of crap that turns off so many to our party in so many parts of the country. Finding racism everywhere.

I don't like Romney any more than the next person here, but come on.
