Hillary Clinton’s changing position on same-sex marriage

Our conclusion

Clinton opposed same-sex marriage as a candidate for the Senate, while in office as a senator, and while running for president in 2008. She expressed her support for civil unions starting in 2000 and for the rights’ of states to set their own laws in favor of same-sex marriage in 2006.

As polls showed that a majority of Americans supported same-sex marriage, Clinton’s views changed, too. She announced her support for same-sex marriage in March 2013.

It’s up to voters to decide how they feel about her changed stance, but on same-sex marriage we give Clinton a Full Flop.

After she tried to sell it on behalf or you and me to foreign governments in spite of the protesting masses, now she said we should phase out (over undisclosed period, maybe 20 years) some fracking on some land. Emphasis on the "we should".

Thanks for bringing that halfhearted 'change of heart' to my attention.

Is there any corporate position Clinton has abandoned before it became untenable, before it became an electoral liability?

Is there any she won't revisit the moment she is sworn in?

She may leave them hanging out on a limb. I think fracking is a good issue to show who she really is. She was having tea and crumpets with foreign leaders along with her friends at Chevron trying to sell them on increasing fracking while the common folks were in the rain protesting the contamination of their drinking water. She clearly chooses the corp position of oil profits before safe drinking water.

Bernie Sanders never made any progress on the issue but who cares since he isn't going to be our nominee anyway.

I hope in the end you will have made the right choice.

"I believe marriage is not just a bond but a sacred bond between a man and a woman. I have had occasion in my life to defend marriage, to stand up for marriage, to believe in the hard work and challenge of marriage. So I take umbrage at anyone who might suggest that those of us who worry about amending the Constitution are less committed to the sanctity of marriage, or to the fundamental bedrock principle that it exists between a man and a woman, going back into the midst of history as one of the founding, foundational institutions of history and humanity and civilization, and that its primary, principal role during those millennia has been the raising and socializing of children for the society into which they are to become adults."

Clinton's support for civil unions was part of the Democratic opposition to a threatened constitutional amendment against equal marriage.

Political rhetoric is a tool that politicians use to get what they can when they can. Politics is about compromise and negotiation.

I have no concerns about any of the three Democratic candidates supporting gay rights or trans rights. Any of them will be fine on this.

endorsement of her today. Check it out at the link and read Jims endorsement of her too.

"Jim made history and changed America for the better by fighting for marriage equality all the way to the Supreme Court," Clinton said. "There are still too many places where LGBT Americans are targeted for harassment and violence, and there are too many young people uncertain and scared of what their future might hold. Right now in America, you can get married on Saturday and be fired from your job on Monday just because of who you love. I see the injustices that are happening in our country, and that is why I'm committed to working with Jim and others to end discrimination against the LGBT community once and for all."
