Quid pro quo?

WASHINGTON — An upstate New York developer donated $100,000 to former President Bill Clinton’s foundation in November 2004, around the same time that Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton helped secure millions of dollars in federal assistance for the businessman’s mall project.

Mrs. Clinton helped enact legislation allowing the developer, Robert J. Congel, to use tax-exempt bonds to help finance the construction of the Destiny USA entertainment and shopping complex, an expansion of the Carousel Center in Syracuse.

.........

The Destiny USA project has attracted criticism. Stephanie Miner, a member of the Syracuse City Council, called it a “boondoggle” that won tax breaks with dubious economic and environmental promises.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/04/washington/04clinton.html

Lorenz's boss, Destiny owner Robert J. Congel, is a Republican who raised more than $200,000 for President Bush's reelection in 2004. He and his family have given $8,000 to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney this year. Congel has given occasionally to Democrats, often to those in a position to help his business ventures.

Congel, his family and associates affiliated with his development have donated $40,000 to Clinton's state and national campaigns since she first ran for office in 1999.

In May, Congel co-hosted a Syracuse fundraiser for her, an event said to have raised an additional $50,000. Lobbying firms hired by Congel in connection with Destiny and other ventures also donated more than $200,000 to various Clinton campaign funds, records show.

.......

Clinton spokesman Reines said there was no connection between her earmarks and her campaign contributions. "One thing has nothing to do with the other," he said.

I see it brought up so very often. No, not everyone thinks this. What does Sanders get for voting for keeping the F-35 program, and what does he get for all of the other votes he does?

What did Sanders get when his wife make the deal to purchase property Burlington College could not afford and then said they had the donation promises to the banks and it all fell through. We know she got a golden parachute of $200,000 and left the college. What happened there, Quid pro quo.

http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/story/news/local/vermont/2014/08/20/lockheed-contribution-vermont-delegation-follow-f-contract/14344483/

Lockheed Martin political action committees and employees have contributed generously to members of Congress, including two Vermont lawmakers, since winning the main contract to develop the Joint Strike Fighter jet, the most expensive weapons project ever.

PACs and employees affiliated with Lockheed contributed $12.4 million to members of Congress between Jan. 1, 2001 and Dec. 31, 2013, according to a recent MapLight analysis of contributions compiled by OpenSecrets.org. About $8.1 million went to current members. Sen. Patrick Leahy, D-Vt., received $12,000 and Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., received $5,200 during that period, according to MapLight, a research group that tracks money's influence on politics.

Over heated objections from some Vermonters, both Leahy and Welch — along with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. — strongly supported basing F-35s at the Air Guard station at Burlington International Airport.

The analysis shows no Lockheed-related contributions for Sanders, who does not accept corporate PAC contributions.

You ask, "How much of the $12.4 million went to Sanders?"

From the post itself:

PACs and employees affiliated with Lockheed contributed $12.4 million to members of Congress between Jan. 1, 2001 and Dec. 31, 2013....

The analysis shows no Lockheed-related contributions for Sanders, who does not accept corporate PAC contributions.

Armstead even helpfully boldfaced the part that shows it did NOT happen with Sanders.

Total contributions: $12.4 million.
Total to current members: $8.1 million.

The amounts listed for the two current Vermont members (other than Sanders) don't add up to $8.1 million. You ask, "Where did the rest go?" I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it went to current members from one of the 49 other states.

And as for the difference between $12.4 million and $8.1 million, obviously it went to people who were in Congress at the time but who have since left office.

I just don't understand how you can keep insinuating that maybe some of this money went to Sanders when the post and the linked article state expressly that the amount going to Sanders was zero, nada, zilch.

You say $8.1 million went to locals. Wrong! That's not in the Armstead's post, it's not in the linked article, and it's not in my posts.

It was $8.1 million to ALL recipients who are current members of Congress, not to "locals" (i.e. Vermonters). C'mon, Vermont has only three members of Congress. You've been told that Leahy got $12,000, that Welch got $5,200, and that Sanders got zero. So the rest went to non-locals. Why is it so hard for you to understand that a big company like Lockheed has money going (through PAC contributions and employee contributions) pretty widely, not just to Vermont?

Well, considering Lockheed gives more money to Clinton, apparently you think the MIC are morons, or otherwise unaware of who their "champions" are.

allow guests to stay in the White House, people get perks and then the politicians get dollars....it's not a GOP conspiracy as some like to say.

But watchdogs and reformers are up in arms after the New York Times revealed that supporters who raise or donate $500,000 or more will score invites to quarterly meetings with Obama and other exclusive perks unavailable to run-of-the-mill Obama supporters. "Access to the president should never be for sale," said Common Cause president Bob Edgar.
