Related: About this forumHillary Clinton has an enthusiasm problem
That is a goddam fucking FACT! Accusing every Democrat who doesn't like or trust her of being a freeper is putting blinders on. All of you pushing her so hard better have a plan in place to generate the enthusiasm she does not instill. Because people have eyes and ears and they know what she has and has not stood for and how she's operated on the past. Those that don't pay attention have been indoctrinated by decades of peripheral Hillary hatred.
What are you going to do about that? Scare them with Republicans? Proven disaster.
She will have my vote but no way in hell can I sell something I don't believe in.

How do you plan to combat the negatives she has in the general electorate?
I am watching MSNBC...they just quoted a poll of Hillary vs. Carson. HE WINS.
Do you understand that people like him, even with all the bullshit lies he has spouted, but they do not like Hillary.

Personally I would not go so far as to call Hillary a "freeper" .. that's a bit harsh ...
more like a 3rd Way DINO imho.

(30,481 posts)That Hillary is running a very smart and measured campaign. You are literally talking about the general election here. She is doing what is necessary to win the primary. There is absolutely no need for her to build huge amounts of enthusiasm. She has been taking steps to stay measured. The general election you are talking about is over a year away. The enthusiasm conversation at this point is a joke. She doesn't need name recognition like Sanders who had to generate enthusiasm immediatley. I promise you, Clinton supporters and her endorsers are enthused enough this far out.

(41,832 posts)I do think you are living in your own bubble. DU and the internet are not the be-all of measuring enthusiasm.
The enthusiasm will grow too as people see the differences when the horrible Republicans pick their person.
I will add that I follow a lot of very enthusiastic Hillary people on twitter. Young and old. Smiling faces and very pumped up.

(16,685 posts)I am very politically connected in a fairly conservative state that Obama only lost by 2 points in 08. We have been bleeding because of Republicans' ability to nationalize hatred of him since 2010. And in 2012 and 2014 returned to the loser strategies of turf protection and running AGAINST Republicans instead of FOR Democrats. Hillary is less popular here than Obama and she will drag us all down. And what about states like Michigan? Wisconsin? Ohio? All fully under the control of Republicans. You are whistling past the graveyard.

(27,815 posts)That's funny - she seems very enthusiastic to me.
If you meant to say that her supporters are not enthusiastic about her, I've seen no evidence of that. In fact, quite the contrary.
But I'm sure a certain contingent here will continue pushing these simple-minded memes that people aren't enthusiastic, that nobody really likes Hillary, that any elected Dem who endorses her is bought-and-paid-for or has been threatened with retaliation if they don't, that people will sit out the GE rather than vote for her - and all the rest of the clap-trap that gets posted here on a daily basis.
I understand how difficult it is for some people to accept that BS's campaign has stalled-out, and is now beginning to visibly circle the drain. But posting nonsense about Hillary and screaming "that's a FACT" doesn't make it so, nor will it change anything.

(27,815 posts)Because there are NO American citizens living in Canada who are involved in US politics and vote regularly. There are also NO organizations here for ex-pats, and NO effort to GOTV among US citizens who vote in US elections via absentee ballot.
In fact, when Americans get together here - just to socialize, or through one of the many organizations that DO NOT exist in Canada for American voters - we never, ever discuss politics.
In addition, we Americans who live in Canada have NO access to US-based political websites, newspapers, blogs, political TV/radio programs, etc. - so we have absolutely NO idea what's going on among HRC supporters beyond the border. We are also completely cut-off from family and friends in the States, and are therefore totally in the dark as to who they support and why.
Living in Toronto is like living with blinders on - because anything that happens in the States is completely unknown to us. Maybe when HRC is POTUS, she can tear down the iron curtain that exists between the US and Canada - and we US citizens here can finally capture a glimpse of what's going on in our native country.

(11,649 posts)those who won't vote for her and we'll get another republican.
a few months ago someone responded to that saying (paraphrasing) "maybe it's worth losing -- so the party will realize they have to be more progressive". that freaked me out. look what 8 years of bush did to this country.
my friend is an independent -- voted clinton, bush and obama. he doesn't understand why i always vote for the democrat. i tried to explain democratic values and appointees to the supreme court. his wife is a staunch republican and christian. i was raised catholic and my grandfather was president of a democratic club for most of his life. in '60 he didn't like kennedy, but he voted for him. i'm 74 and most of my family is gone (aunts, uncles, etc) but many were practicing catholics. i have a cousin who is still a practicing catholic. the only republican in my family that i know of is my youngest sister.
that being said. my family didn't influence my political views. that was my decision. my late husband was raised by racist republicans. he was a democrat but his sister is still a republican.

(16,685 posts)I make no bones about it. I don't like her and part of the reason I supported Obama in 08 was because he was a viable opponent to her. But if I have to vote for her I will gladly do so. How many other people out there who don't really pay much attention and are only hearing the free publicity about the Republicans right now are going to be enthused enough to get out and vote for her. She's no Obama and even the Obama of 2012 couldn't replicate the Obama of 08.
I see disaster ahead.

(16,685 posts)A year from now. I will, however, offer my heartfelt and empathetic sympathies.
And if I'm wrong then I'll just be resigned that the national Democratic Party is bound and determined to continue its money-chasing path to the former Republican Party.

(23,664 posts)I disagree with a lot of what Obama has done (or more precisely what he has failed to do) in the 7 years he has been in office but I can't help liking the guy. Clinton - not even in the same hemisphere when it comes to personal appeal or likability.
She's overcontrolled, fake, contrived and she has a chip on her shoulder the size of a giant sequoia. Her speaking style is bland and uninspiring. She's the reincarnation of Richard Nixon when it comes to resentment and paranoia.
She's a very unappealing candidate because people can see right through her. But that isn't the reason I oppose her. Its because of the elitist, oligarchic, and immoral economic and foreign policies she has supported in the past. As much of a problem I have with some of Obama's decisions, I'm afraid Clinton's would be exponentially worse, especially in the areas of income inequality, energy/environment/climate and use of military force.

(7,624 posts)I am a Democratic Party activist in a red part of Florida. I write the local newsletter. One of the things I do is monitor local campaign events and publicize them. There are at least 2 Bernie events a week in our area. The cumulative local event total for Hillary is 0. Hillary supporters are currently spending a lot of time running victory laps to celebrate her poll numbers. If they stop looking at polls and start looking around their neighborhoods they should be getting nervous.
