Sen. Chris Coons endorses Hillary Clinton

Her economic positions swayed Coons

WASHINGTON (CNN) -

Democratic Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware endorsed Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential bid on CNN's "New Day" on Tuesday, saying the former Secretary of State has the best shot at winning the general election.

"Across a wide range of issues from college access to manufacturing, from foreign policy to leadership, I'm thrilled to be endorsing her today in her run for president," he told CNN's Alisyn Camerota.

Coons said he chose Clinton over fellow Senator Bernie Sanders because of her economic positions.

"I just think we need an economic message of optimism that focuses on growth as well as one that looks with a clear eye about some of the issues about income equality that Bernie has raised," he said.

The Delaware senator was a vocal supporter of Vice President Joe Biden hoping he'd enter the race before he announced he'd pass on a third presidential bid last month.

"I'm a big Joe Biden fan and supporter. And I was hopeful that he would be running for president. I think his voice for our middle class has been unequaled, but I think he's made the right choice for his family," Coons said.

Coons, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, was also optimistic about the future relationship between the U.S. and Israel following Monday's meeting between President Barack Obama and Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"There are many who suggested that our strong disagreements over the Iran Nuclear Deal may have permanently frayed the U.S.-Israel relationship. Nothing could be farther from the truth," he said. " I think the meeting between Obama and Netanyahu reinforced our strong, deep and lasting relationship."

Coons becomes the 36th Democratic Senator to endorse Hillary Clinton (85%). As of today 126 (67%) of all Democrats in the House have endorsed Hillary Clinton.

It's also specious and a red herring...The poll asks people what they think of Congress as an institution, not what they think of their individual congressperson. If less than ten percent of voters thought their rep or senator is doing a crappy job he or she would be out of one.

I'm beginning to think this isn't a show and they truly believe this. One comment would sink their ship. What is Coons approval in his own district? Add on top of that that Clinton is getting a minimum of one email blast from every person who has endorsed here. Clinton literally gets access to their email list at least one time. By access I mean limited of course, they aren't just handed to Clinton their email "book". Then there is the fact they meet with Clinton and stand at rallies with her during the campaign. The list of why endorsements are a big deal is very long. At first I didn't think some of these people were serious when they say "who cares about endorsements." Now I'm starting to realize they know so little about politics that they are being honest with their feelings.

I love the enthusiasm that they have and I remember it myself for Obama back in 08 when I was on his bandwagon from when he first announced, still remembering his earlier convention speech.

But even then it was a matter of watching how politics is actually played because delegates, endorsements and campaigning with fellow Democrats is hugely important as part of the ground game. Though Clinton took some natural hits over the summer, something every frontrunner does the year prior to the actual election, she took every lesson learned from the 08 campaign and has pushed forward to win it.

Just think of what it'll be like post-convention when Obam and OFA get involved in campaigning. They won't keep him away like Gore did with Clinton back in 2000.

There's potential for some seriously huge coattails here.

I'm glad you at least moved on from your original and extremely flawed point to another extremely flawed point. If you truly believe your first point, then you would have to draw the conclusion it is why Sanders is doing so poorly. I don't agree with your logic by the way but do think you should at least attempt to be consistent. Once again, good move deflecting from your original point.

Clinton gets at a minimum one email blast from their email list. Sometimes many more than one. Then, most of them are very popular in their districts(dirty little secret for you there). When Clinton comes into town she is introduces by people already respected by the community. Not only that, they have their own networks.

The list goes on as to why they are important. Just those things I mention should be an eye opener for you. They are facts and go directly against your assumptions.

...and isn't that the problem?

We need a revolutionary President; someone who will make real change. Meaningful change.

Hillary can't do that with her bags of SuperPAC money in tow. She's beholden to the same damn interests that have had a stranglehold on our politicians for decades. And it's only gotten worse.

Bernie has more campaign contributions than any other Presidential candidate in history. He's doing better than Obama was
at this point! Bernie will serve "We The People" not the banks, the oil companies, the fracking industry, the for-profit prison system or those who want to perpetuate serial war in the Middle East.

Hillary Clinton can't serve us when she OWES so many millionaires and billionaires who will demand payback.
