+1. I agree. Expanding early voting is the better reform. n/t FSogol Nov 2015 #7
The other thing about early voting here, is you can do it at any location in your county. tammywammy Nov 2015 #8

Election Day sales 20 percent off everything. Oh come on, you know that would happen. Not sure having Election Day off would increase voting numbers. Already most states have early voting and does move the meter much.

What people should be demanding is better early voting. In Texas we have two weeks of early voting that includes hours on the weekend.

I usually vote at the early location closest to my house, but I could go to the one that's closer to work if time was a factor or I wanted to do it during lunch.

Even better would be the vote by mail that Oregon, I think, does. Especially if they'd do that for city/local elections.

An election day holiday will apply to a very small percentage of workers. Meanwhile, everyone in retail would wind up having to work from open to close in their stores. When will they get to vote? And which other holiday will the federal workers choose to give up?

More early voting. Everywhere. Every state. Including weekend hours.

In New Mexico we have great early voting starting about a month before election day itself. We also had good early voting when I lived in Kansas. I'm sure the Republican masters there have made that go away. I haven't voted on an actual election day in years.
