2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumAlright, elleng, you win.
Governor O'Malley's veterans platform is the single most comprehensive I've seen out of all the candidates running in either party.
So, damn it, I'm switching my support. O'Malley 2016!

(36,474 posts)Our frickin' media does the country a huge disservice by not giving him more time. But then, they don't serve us.
I thought Rachel's Democratic forum was far better than the usual debates. I really learned more about the candidates and they all got equal time. I finally got to know Martin O'Malley and I was impressed. We need more of these.

(36,286 posts)Compare what O'Malley is saying now and what he has accomplished, and ask yourself if we can afford to wait 4 or 8 years.

(17,600 posts)But even so, if we do have to wait, the good news is that he's young enough to still be around.
I think he would make a great President now. But if he doesn't win the nomination? He'd also make a helluva strong player in almost any role in Hillary's or Bernie's administration.

(11,175 posts)I'm not saying that all Clinton supporters are conservatives -- but I am saying that all the conservative Democrats are supporting Clinton. They would not be comfortable with O'Malley, who is significantly to Clinton's left on many issues.
I would expect someone else to get into the race. Andrew Cuomo would be an obvious choice to rally the right wing of the Democratic Party. Alternatively, because anyone entering at this late stage would need an organization, Clinton herself could essentially appoint her successor. If she announced her support for a new candidate (i.e., not O'Malley or Sanders), that person would pick up a lot of the Clinton support (the SuperPAC, many of the voters, and much of the organization). Some supporters would go to O'Malley but not enough to make him the frontrunner.
