2016 Postmortem

I got angry last night about seeing a string of posts resurrecting the claim that Clinton is much more a progressive champion for social justice and racial justice, and Bernie "only has himself to blame" for not faring better with AA votes because of his so-called lack of concern for them. And that it was unimportant that he got arrested to protest segregation and went to the March on Washington, and has been fighting for social justice ever since.
And in my anger, I posted something that maybe I shouldn't have.
I was trying to remember what great causes Clinton had championed to justify that. But it brought to mind the great Triangulation campaign of 1996, where the Clinton's and Dick Morris stuck with VChips and School Uniforms and other plain vanilla moderate/conservative positions to avoid dealing with any real issues or advocating any real social programs.
So I posted something that I remembered at the time as having a racial connotation, regarding the campaign platform about School Uniforms.
I shouldn't have put it in that context.
Maybe I was being too touchy and a little gratuitous. If people want to support Clinton, I know that's just a choice.
But my dander gets up when I see distortions about Sanders and claims that totally disregard a guy wo has been foghting for real issues to raise up AAs and everybody all his life.

(50,989 posts)fight that is to post obvious and ridiculous distortions about Clinton. That's childish and ugly.
Seriously, you guys need to step back from the edge. Collectively, you are harming your candidate and individually, many of you are harming your own credibility.

(50,989 posts)I will be voting for whoever is best poised to do that at primary time, and I will happily vote for the Democratic candidate, whichever it is.
From that perspective, I will say that Bernie supporters are way, way beyond the supporters of either of the other candidates in terms of their collective ridiculousness. There is no comparison whatsoever. I seriously read some of the stuff posted by Bernie supporters and think, "If this is who is following him, am I mistaken in liking the guy?"
Really. There's no comparison, and you are not doing your candidate any favors.

(13,685 posts)Hillary's bad judgement makes her unfit to be Commander-In-Chief.
Hillary supported regime change in Iraq. That policy has resulted in hundreds of thousands killed, thousands of American soldiers killed, countless injuries, and horrific chaos that continues today.
Hillary supported regime change in Libya that has resulted in mass suffering, death, and chaos that continues today. She refers to it as "smart power at its best."
Hillary did not oppose the coup that ousted the democratically elected president in Honduras. That coup fueled the violence in Honduras that contributed to a refugee crisis at our border.
Hillary supported nation-building in Afghanistan and even bigger troop increases in Afghanistan than Obama approved. The approved increase resulted in hundreds of American soldiers losing their lives.
Hillary not only supported the Israeli attacks in Gaza, but was not even willing to condemn Israel for its disproportionate use of force in those attacks.

(50,989 posts)You write:
" Bernie supporters are way, way beyond the supporters of either of the other candidates in terms of their collective ridiculousness. "
I asked you a serious question and all you can do is tell me that I am one of those you call 'ridiculous'? Is that right?
Thing is, I care that the poor innocent people are being injured and made homeless by our might, and I want that to end. Jimmy Carter never bombed anyone and I pray that I can say that about the next president.
So sit there and call me ridiculous all you want, but just try to answer the question of do you support more war.

(13,685 posts)Talk about ridiculous ....
I will not support Hillary and more war. If she makes it to the GE, I will vote for her but I will hardly campaign for her. To do so would be supporting war, and I can't do that.

(9,497 posts)But the only reason I see your point at all, is that you are not one of the many who has a fly swatted in their sig line. All those posters are on ignore as I see it as a point of joy at getting voices snuffed.
So here on DU, the h supporters have harmed their candidate and themselves as well.
There is a lot of rancor on both sides, but our side never put messages in our sig lines that we were glad someone on the other side got the boot.
It does make for a much more peaceful read and more informative one, as well.

(146,324 posts)If you want to deal with that, you can easily do it in the original post. You can edit it. You can self-delete it. You can explain it. Right in the original thread.
Since you didn't link to the thread you're talking about, how is anyone supposed to understand what it is you're apologizing for?
I knew which thread it was, and commented in that thread.
Maybe the place to deal with it is there, right in the thread itself - right in the OP of that thread. I dunno...

(45,851 posts)In fact one of the posters who called me out is posting on this thread, I thought about what was said to me for quite some time and finally agreed with those who pointed out my error.
I haven't kept count but probably delete more posts unfinished than I actually put up on DU, it's one of the things that keeps me from saying things I shouldn't, just the act of typing things out often releases whatever negative emotion I may be feeling and there is no need to finish posting it.

(9,610 posts)The problem is, that we have a number of entrenched right wingers on this board that know just how far they can push it. They are constantly baiting the left members (what I believe are the real Democrats) to lose their cool. They are relentless and will tag team or more if not getting the results they desire.
I use block user often on a temporary basis so my blood does not come to a boil over posts that I feel are more inline with freeperville than a Democratic board.

(20,453 posts)Being touchy? Meh... I think if we left these people make their comments without being effected, we'd be as detached as some of the poor choice of candidates running for office these days.
