2016 Postmortem
Related: About this forumHillary Clinton used to believe in learning from other countries.
During the first debate, Bernie Sanders said we should have "health care to all people" and "medical and family paid leave" like Denmark.
Hillary Clinton replied, "We are not Denmark."
However, Hillary Clinton wrote in her 1996 book, "It Takes A Village," that the US should emulate the social programs of other countries:
"In Sweden...couples receive fifteen months of job-guaranteed, paid leave to share between them."
...In France, 90% of "children between ages three and five attend free or inexpensive preschools."
In Germany, "there is a general consensus that government and business should play a role in evening out inequities in the free market system."

(70,269 posts)and apply it fully in the USA (well, if there was a Dem presidency and Dem senate and House and the population agreed-then we could). But as the other poster--Vanilla R.. pointed out, we are a Democracy. Need to be practical and work in stages for these proposals. And we need to educate the country why they are good for us. Sanders is good at pointing out what is wrong--over and over he tells us--for months now, but I really do not see him educating the public--why and how it would be helpful. IMHO
