I wish I could vote for Alan Grayson. His email talks about fight to keep V.A. from being closed.

Florida is home to one of the largest veterans populations in the nation, and we have a responsibility to make sure they get the care they’ve earned.

Unfortunately, it appears I’m the only candidate who actually believes that.

Here's the quote:

“The leading GOP candidate running to represent Florida in the Senate announced that he’s open to 'dismantling' the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and devolving it to the states....”

That’s David Jolly, one of my Republican opponents (and coincidentally, Patrick Murphy's close friend, according to the National Journal), openly attacking veterans benefits by calling for dismantling the VA. Our veterans deserve first-class care, both in the field of battle, and at home — they’ve earned it, and we have promised it to them. No one has the right to try to take that away.

By contrast, let’s compare what I’ve done for veterans in my district:

After six years of hard work and effort on my part, we just opened a new VA hospital in my district. Before that hospital opened, Orlando was the largest city in the country without one;
In 2009, I voted for the largest increase in the VA’s budget in history; and last year, I extended a tax credit for employers who hire active-duty service members;
And our constituent services work in the last two years has yielded more than $700,000 in veterans benefits to constituents.
That’s the kind of record Florida veterans need in the Senate — someone who doesn’t hurl platitudes and talking points at them in an attempt to earn votes; someone who actually delivers. It’s why I fought so hard to open that VA hospital in Orlando. I took the time to listen to the concerns of veterans in my district, and learned just how unacceptable it was that a city as large as Orlando didn’t have a VA hospital. And I took those concerns and turned them into action — just like I always do.

Unlike David Jolly, I will never throw my hands up in the air and give up on our veterans. I’ll keep fighting for them every single day in the U.S. Senate.

Courage,

Rep. Alan Grayson
Candidate for Senate
