ALERTER'S COMMENTS
OTT do we really need to stoop this low DU?
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Nov 3, 2015, 07:44 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: We are beyond being fair at this point in the game. No untruths in the OP. Nothing racist, nor sexist.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Meh
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I'm leaning toward HRC, and I don't find it OTT
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: Like it or not, like her or not, Hillary Clinton is the Democratic front runner, so to claim that "she'll make your head spin like Linda Blair", is to infer that she's demonic and evil, and this is beyond the pale. Scuba is better than this. HIDE IT.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

I did not imply that Hillary is "demonic and evil," only that she'll make heads spin.

Calling out a juror because you dont agree with their decision.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Tue Nov 3, 2015, 11:59 AM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No, not really. Calling out jurors? No, thanks.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: justanothergen - This is not an acceptable alert. 1. The juror is anonymous. 2. We have numerous threads at DU AND Subthreads regarding Jurors decisions. 3. This in no way breaks TOS.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Wow, this isn't a disruptive post. If anything the alert is disruptive.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This alert is petty and in no way, shape, or form meets the criteria for having the post hidden.

It would take a lot of dedicate effort to get upset about Juror #6's comments, and it certainly doesn't violante any community standards.

If you make any sort of serious attempt to follow her changes you may very well end up with whiplash... A lot easier to know where she may go next if you follow Bernie's stances

(5,279 posts)Is Ms. Clinton changing her message according to her audience for clarity, or is she changing her message just to be liked?
She does adopt regional accents upon demand.
Second question; Why is there an assumption that progressives are unable to get things done?
Progressives want to move forward. They accept the fact that the world is ever evolving , ever changing, at an ever increasing rate. They embrace this. They listen to any argument and when a case is presented well and a need brought to light; they act on it with enthusiasm. ie immigration reform, marijuana decriminalization, climate change, and hopefully soon climate/environment restoration.
Conservatives are fixated on the status quo. They are exceedingly happy with things as they are, and actively work against setting new forward goals. Huge amounts of resources and energy are spent keeping us here. Packing pillows around you own giant ass on the couch is the antithesis of getting things done.
Corporatists are a sub-group of conservatives. They are quite happy to be eternally sitting at the bottom of the funnel as ever increasing amounts of resources are poured down their gullets, their only responsibility being occasionally defecating. Even that is something they are loathed to do, because it is surrender of something of theirs. The only change they are interested in is a widening of the funnel or the change in your pocket. This is the monstrous version of getting things done.

Half-Century Man
(5,279 posts)They rehash the same shit wasting the time better spent on planning and acting for the future.
And therein lays one of my concerns about Ms. Clinton.
How did she mentally separate "Progressive" from "getting things done"? And has she linked the distraction having to regain cultural victories to actual accomplishment? She thrives on challenging conservatives on the battles they love (yous "old Issues" from your post). She does nothing about actually beating them, that I have seen.
If she is a progressive, she has redefined the word.

(15,257 posts)Just as Reps can be liberal and progressive - and at most none are.
Used to be that moderates of both "parties" were somewhere on all these spectra of measurements. Now we all need to be red or blue, black or white, pro or con.
Well I ain't and I expect most people aren't. Even the politicians and their highly paid consultants and handlers.
It is only the media that wants things to be so bifurcated. Easier to report and easier to flame stupidity.

(5,400 posts)The issue is "Moderate" stances vs. "Progressive" stances, in that they aren't always the same.
Progressives think of themselves as being reasonable, patient, and willing to build coalitions. You know, moderate. And Moderates think themselves to be supporting many progressive programs.
But many self identified Moderates will disagree with the majority of self identified Progressives on some issues.
"On these issues, (and here they would get named), where do you stand?"
Edit: Question needed a question mark.

(3,655 posts)anyone can call themselves one. We had progressive Republican governors here. The term doesn't really describe where they stand.
Babel_17
(5,400 posts)People can stand by the term and call out those who hijack it, or just let it go and not get hung up on it.
I see people refer to themselves as members of "the Roosevelt wing", or being classic New Deal Democrats. Those terms are kind of hard to co-opt.
I feel like a New Deal Progressive Democrat tonight. Let no one go to bed hungry, or be feeling the lack of decent medical care. Let's rein in the power of the all mighty buck, and let's elect a government that will restore our economy for the betterment of the 99%.
